This wonderful book is a passionate plea for values-based living. In easy-to-read chapters; combines psychological wisdom with clear steps to a happier, more fulfilling life. There's so much in the book that I had to read a chapter, think about it for a couple of days, and only then go on to the next one. It's a book to read over and over again.
This is an inspirational self-help manual ... that offers a spin of life, encouraging readers to put what their souls want first, damning outside pressures and influences as they try to the most of their life, and coping with the tragedies and challenges of life... a strongly recommended pick, not to be overlooked for self-help collections.

Living Life From the Inside Out: Who You Are Matters by Edward A. Dreyfus, PhD, is an excellent choice for anyone who desires to focus on the important aspects of life. Dr. Dreyfus, a clinical psychologist for over 40 years, shares his experienced perspective throughout the book. While our society defines success in terms of career, money, property, etc., the author contends that success can be defined as living a conscious life with integrity. Dr. Dreyfus illustrates how a fulfilled life is achieved when our core values are congruent with our actions. Additionally, other essential aspects in living a balanced life, such as beliefs, forgiveness, courage, commitment, and love, are also examined. The chapter, The Story We Tell, explains how each of us develops a narrative about our lives. This narrative may be based on distorted memories and may be misinterpreted - an interesting perspective.
Although the knowledge in this book has some basis in psychological theories, it is presented in a comprehensible manner. Edward A. Dreyfus' well-developed presentation in Living Life from the Inside Out: Who You Are Matters can be understood by all readers. Dr. Dreyfus' writing style is clear and down-to-earth. The addition of personal vignettes illustrates his concepts well. Likewise, several practical, step-by-step exercises will assist one on the journey to conscious living. Although a few sections may seem basic or simplistic to some, there is powerful and eloquent wisdom within each one. Combine this wisdom with practical solutions, and a truly balanced and satisfying life can be achieved. This book is a true gem!
About the Author
Dr. Edward A. Dreyfus, a nationally known Clinical Psychologist, Marriage-Family Therapist, Certified Sex Therapist, and Life Coach who has been practicing in the Los Angeles area for over four decades, where he provides individual psychotherapy, relationship counseling, sex therapy, and life coaching. Rather than focusing on "mental illness", Dr. Dreyfus emphasizes the inherent growth potential in all human beings. As a Life Coach, Dr. Dreyfus consults with individuals who desire to move their personal lives, businesses, careers, or professions to a higher level. Life coaching begins where psychotherapy leaves off. Considered an expert in his field, Dr. Dreyfus is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and holds Diplomate status in the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, the American Board of Sexology, and the Academy of Clinical Sexologists. He is a recipient of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association's Distinguished Psychologist Award and is listed in Who's Who in America. The book does not delve into the realm of more serious mental disorders, nor does he discuss recent theories and treatments that have galvanzized the mental health community (i.e., "attachment theory", "neuro-psychological theories", etc.) Doing that might be enlightening to some readers but might also make it less accessible and readable to others. This is a straight talking, non-elitist conversation between an experienced clinician who speaks from the heart (and from his own professional and personal experiences)and his intelligent and hopeful readership. We can all learn something from this book...how and why we live the way we do, why we get stuck at times, how we might change ourselves and our life views and how we just might find more fulfilling paths to living more peaceful, mindful and joyous lives. Lots of food for thought and discussion. Definitely worth reading.
