The book was TOO short. I turned the page and there was nothing else. I was so disappointed. There was so much of this story that could have continued. Hope there is a followup novella.
I recommend product wholeheartedly.
Johnson does an excellent job of taking the reader on Candace’s journey of finding herself and finding purpose, all the while hiding who she really is and her struggles in plain sight. The title, Living Separate Lives, is very fitting. All four of these women have found themselves on various paths winding through success, failure, marriage and relationships. Johnson succeeded in telling us what happens when four friends get together for one weekend – this one weekend that altered their course of friendship.
Any author that has the courage to address suicide or suicidal attempts is fearless in my opinion. I would have like to have known the outcome of their friendship and their moment of forgiveness. Forgiveness is implied, but never spoken in this novella.
If you are looking for a great read on women, relationships and friendships, this is the book for you. I would highly recommend this for book clubs as well. This was my first time reading a title by this author, I look forward to reading more from her.
Readers are introduced to unique female characters - each at different stages of their journey. Most of the women have fell out of touch, until recently. As they are able to reconnect, a seemingly unforgivable circumstance emerges, causing their faith to be rattled. Being saved is by no means an easy task. Author Harper shows this too well. I was filled with mixed emotions, despising and pitying certain characters. This story even forced me to consider how I would react, if I was ever put in the shoes of those affected. I do not believe in giving spoilers; however, I will say with all certainty that this reading will force you to examine yourself, no matter what stage of the journey you reside.
