Those advertised for pet X are invariably WAY too small and when you find a cage that is actually big enough, the bar spacing is too wide, meaning you have to convert it, which is kind of a hassle - and doubles the weight.....
For mice, specifically, bin cages aren't ideal, because they don't provide adequate ventilation, especially not if you have boys.
The Mickey 2 is EXPENSIVE (imported from Belgium....), but at 448" of floor space it's a good size for 1 male or 3-4 female mice and the bar spacing is tight enough that they can't get out (if you have baby mice, they'll need a tank or bin anyway). There are 2 gaps where the gate latches hook onto the top, which I have covered with gorilla tape, if your mouse is a very determined escape artist, you will have to resort to stronger measures.
The wire level provided needs to be covered with something to prevent possible injury, I use plastic canvas on the level, which is also filled with hides and things and a wood bridge to cover the wire ramp.
The provided plastic wheel is too small for mice - the tail is an extension of the spine - the little plastic tube tunnel seems kind of pointless and a water dish (baby food jar) gives the mouse a much more natural drinking position than a bottle.
Not sure how happy a dwarf hamster would be in this cage, they really need a LOT of floor space, mice can be ok with less because they like to climb.
Update: The plastic carrying handles are NOT sturdy ! One of them already broke after only a few weeks - fortunately no disastrous results - I have replaced it with a handle fashioned from clothesline and will be replacing the other plastic handle forthwith.
We can fit so many toys and a bridge in this cage and there is still plenty of room for him to move around. We also fit in a small casserole dish half full of sand for him to clean his fur! (He took to it and LOVED that right away!) We couldn't have provided that in a smaller cage. We shredded colored napkins in our office shredder for bedding and put it on top of his normal odor reducing bedding for fun! This cage is great for that because it is so big, the base is very deep, 6.5", and the wire spacing is a perfect 1/4" so I can sleep at night knowing he won't escape and the bedding won't get kicked out. And when it's time for a new little baby hamster, they can't get out of the 1/4" wires spacing either! Thank You, Thank You to whomever designed this cage! The US doesn't have very many large cages for hamsters! A lot of people are making their own with IKEA Hacks! I'm so glad this cage saved me from having to do that.
Now we hamster lovers just need one designed that's this same width or two inches skinnier, but twice the length so we can put it atop our sideboards in our kitchens and give them plenty of room to roam!

Photo one: The bar highlighted is the bar you need to be attaching the door to instead of the first one like it advertises.
Photo two: That is the gap if you use the first bar. A small rodent such as a mouse can easily slip through.
Photo three: That gap disappears if you use the second bar instead.
Photo four: I can easily slip my fingers through when attached to the first bar.
Photo five: When attached to the second bar,my finger no longer fits.
The size is pretty good. It pretty much comes already put together, very little effort or skill is needed to set it up.
The wheel it comes with is pretty low quality so I would reccomend looking into other ones.
All in all,I really like this cage. I bought three and would definitely buy it again in the future for more rodents.

Great cage, has its flaws, like all cages a5 the minute do, but worth the size!

Great cage, has its flaws, like all cages a5 the minute do, but worth the size!
I got this for our Syrian Hamster after having him for 3 weeks and realising his Rotostak set up wasn't suitable or big enough. It's a great cage with a big sturdy front door and narrow 7mm bar spacing. It's the same size as the Hamster Heaven - virtually the same cage but with smaller bar spacing so suitable for dwarf hamsters as well as syrian hamsters. I wanted the smaller bar spacing as it means it is mouseproof (we live in a rural area and occasionally get the odd house mouse). Be careful though as most of the contents are too small for a Syrian hamster - they are mouse sized. So the wheel is too small and needs replacing with a bigger one, the tubes are too small and flat in the middle for a hamster (ours got stuck in them and it was quite distressing - luckily we were there to get him free of them) and the metal shelf needs to come out as it is bad for hamsters' feet. The sputnik is ok but I found the rat sized one better for a Syrian hamster.
I've had this cage for about 8 months now and it is a great cage but I now want a bigger one. It seemed huge at 80cm x 50cm when I first got it, but as with most cages, the base slopes in near the bottom so the floor area at the base is actually only about 70cm x 40cm. Also our Syrian grew quite large and needs rat sized tubes, toys and houses, and although he is happy as pie in there, he doesn't have a lot of floor area left for just being a hamster and digging. So if you're looking for a good cage - this is great, with a few contents changed. But I would seriously urge anyone to get a 100cm cage and not waste money upgrading as I'm about to do. A 100 cm cage might seem huge but will easily sit on top of a chest of drawers, even if there's a slight overhang. For £69 you can get an Alexander cage from Zooplus which is taller, so you can have deep substrate for digging, is 100cm by 52cm and also has narrow 7mm bar spacing (despite being advertised as 1cm bar spacing), so also suitable for both dwarf and syrian hamsters. If you can manage to find space for a 100cm cage, it would be way better for a Syrian or a dwarf hamster. They need space to move, run around and dig. You can see by the photo of our cage that it's already looking cluttered with the rat sized stuff in. I've found just about everything sold for hamsters is far too small for Syrians and that can be a hazard - they're mostly just for dwarf hamsters.
I initially bought a dune shelf (the solid one from the Hamster heaven with a pod house on) but it was a total pain as not flat (presumably why it's called 'dune!') so things kept sliding off it, the pod house was too small for the hamster so the top kept popping off, and he thought the corner food bowl was a toilet - because it was in a corner. So the shelf had to go and now I have a flat roofed guinea pig house in the cage, which is great - the roof top makes an excellent shelf/platform and the house is big inside so his toilet tray is at one end and he's built a huge nest at the other end. The door on the house is very large so I put a wood tunnel over the front - he loves it because it is dark inside now. I found a bottle stand in the cage was easier than squeezing bottle spouts through the narrow bars. But if you can fit a 100cm cage in, it would be way better for a Syrian or a dwarf hamster.
Here's how I have it set up with our Hamster coming out to demonstrate his cage!

The bottle leaked water constantly. The little tubes he liked but would not be any good for a bigger hamster. The pod is fine, but unless you put a ladder up to it, you will need to put it on the lower area, or the hamster will not be able to reach to get inside.

The wire shelf however is not suitable for hamsters at all & shouldn't be used, not a problem for me as I never use accessories or shelves that come with cages but it is unfortunate as many people may buy the cage not realising the shelf could be dangerous & possibly result in bumblefoot if used.
