The Lizard’s Tale is a heroic adventure that kids will read and enjoy. For one thing, it has humor. I loved this line: “. . .being the Great Iguana, doesn’t mean you know everything.”
In her humor Denham lodges some very solid messages; question authority, heroes come in many shapes and sizes, help can come from unexpected alliances, and believe in yourself. The best part of these messages is they're never "preachy."
From the cover, which is so perfect for the book, to the end, young readers will have fun sharing Marvin Tinkleberry’s great adventure.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Along the way, Marvin meets many characters, including El Grecko, the She-Beast, the Great Iguana, and more, including the lovely Leeza. He also encounters many challenges along the way, beginning with his trek across the Sucker Cactus Forest.
Although Marvin is a male lizard, A LIZARD’S TAIL is a great book for all young readers, both boys and girls. As well as for readers of any age who have remained young at heart.
The author provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Turns out, he's right. But in his heroic quest to save all the critters in his community from a feral cat, he ventures out into a scary world, where he realizes the futility of trying to go it alone, and learns how to work graciously and thankfully with others. He also learns humility, and the true meaning of friendship and greatness.
The wonderfully-named characters, their interaction, and the tale itself all make for a story children are... destined... to love. And (shhhh) they're bound to learn something from it, too.
I rarely give five stars, but this one deserves it!
Full disclosure: review is based upon an ARC.
Marvin’s adventure changes him and introduces him to many new friends. The story is about cooperation and friendship. It’s also about preconceived notions, vanity, and expanding one’s knowledge.
The characters are charming. I loved both El Grekko and the Great Old Iguana.
This would be not only a wonderful book to read to your kids, but one you would enjoy reading, too!
Marvin is my new hero! And even though I'm not a big fan of Lizards, per se, Marvin is just the guy to turn my head. Taking on the responsibility to save his garden, he traverses through the big wide world and finds an adventure.
Ms. Denham's writing is superb -- colorful and lush, and her characters are as diverse as the flowers in the garden. Another exciting gem from Bish Denham. Perfect for any age.
