As a kid, I remember how kind and generous my second uncle was (Rene Herrera). Now that I am older, I realized the reason for his kindness and it reflects on the very same songs that made them who they are. These were songs that I listen to when I was just a little boy and barely remember, until recently when in the mid-ninties their music was digitally remastered and re-released. I just recently purchased my first music CD, and it was then I realized how great this music really was and still is. I highly recommend this CD to anyone, especially people who are collector's or are devoted musicians who appreciate some of the first and best Latin artists who's music was the first to brake down barriers, and crossover to the American music scene.

Laredo, Texas-born René Ornelas (August 26, 1936) and René Herrera (October 2, 1935) had, as the duo René y René (or Rene & Rene), one Billboard Pop Hot 100 that just missed the Top 40 in July, 1964 - right in the midst of the opening stages of the British Invasion - with the self-penned beautiful ballad Angelito (Little Angel), with soft xylophone, brass accompaniment and vocals in both Spanish and English that ended up at # 43 b/w Write Me Soon on Columbia 43045. And that would not only be their only national charter for the next four years, but also their only Columbia release. Even so, it earned them a guest spot on American Bandstand in August 1964.

They next turned up at the Los Angeles-based White Whale Records, launched in 1965 by Ted Feigin and Lee Lassiff, where they initially had another of their self-penned tunes, Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero (The More I Love You) paired with Llorasas (You will Cry) on White Whale 281 in late 1968, but for reasons that are unclear that was was quickly replaced by a pairing Of Lo Much Que Te Quiero and Mornin' on White Whale 287, and by December 1968/January 1969 it was peaking at # 2 Adult Contemporary and # 14 Hot 100. That earned them an album, with the title of the hit (White Whale 7119) which essentially carried the same tracks as those presented here in this 1999 CD from Varèse-Sarabande with the exception of (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay. While that was track 8 in the LP, on this CD release that has been changed to Quando Llegue A Phoenix (By The Time I Get To Phoenix). Also, tracks 12 to 14 are added as "bonus" sides. The remastered sound quality by Dan Hersch is excellent and it comes with interesting liner notes written by Chuy Varela.

this is the most wonderful album ever - I love it because it reminds me of my childhood in a rural area I grew up. I love the songs on this album. "Believe me when I say how much I love this album"

Despite the fact that Rene & Rene are native sons of the southern border region, their musical contribution was essential to the genesis of rock & rock at this period in time. This is truly a hard-to-find item, being that these songs are practically invisible to most (if not all) compilers of 60s collections. The quality of the CD is surprisingly crisp and clear. I am a very 'picky' collector of 60s music and I am very pleased with this acquisition.

I ordered this CD for Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero because my mom used to sing it to me as a child. It's exactly what I remember, so I would give the song 5 stars if I could. The rest of the cd is a little cheesy for my tastes, but it's not horrible.

My uncle Domingo T. would listen to this song. I loved him VERY much. He has since died. It has been over 25 years since I heard this song. Thank you for the memories that now seem so clear. signed Lisa L.

This CD is great. Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero (The More I Love You) is a tune that is sung in both Spanish and English and is one of the best Latin oldies out there. Highly Recommended.
