As to the customer service, here's more. The new unit had a nice handwritten note from Keysha, an employee of Blade Shop apologizing for my trouble and giving me the name and number of Keith, the owner of the Blade Shop to call if I had further problems. I did call to ask a question about which box I should ship back to him and we ended up chatting for about 20 minutes. Nice guy. He was aware of my review and said that Rick, the owner of Locksaf had seen it too and had called him to make sure he did everything possible to make me happy because he knows his product is the best on the market now and the problems with my unit were an anomaly. It appears that that is the case as my new Locksaf works just as advertised and I am completely satisfied that I bought the right biometric safe.
If you are in the market for a biometric safe you should pull the trigger on this one. You will more than likely get a perfect unit, but if there's a problem you're in good hands with either the Blade Shop or Locksafe because they will make it right for you. Thanks for reading.
The safe is very well designed and constructed. It would be difficult to break into and in my mind, is probably the higgest quality of its kind.
When I received the unit and programmed it, it seemed to be working. I continued testing it and began to notice that it was tempermental. Sometimes it would open for me on the first try and sometimes only after a few tries. I also programmed my wife's prints and she seemed to have worse luck with it than I did. It goes without saying that given the intended use, it really isn't the right fit if it cannot be depended on to open the first time.
Near the end of my 30 day trial period, I contacted the company and told them I thought I might need to return it because I was not getting consistent results. Believe it or not, the other reviewers who said the owner handles customer service issues were right! I spoke with the owner of the company, who had me try several things which did not seem to help and ended up arranging an exchange for me. He said they would test the unit that I had returned and in the meantime I could see if a replacement unit worked any better.
The owner did say that there is a small percentage of the population who, for whatever reason, are incompatible with fingerprint technlogy because their fingerprint is not consistent. He did give the example of people with a burn or a scar; I have neither. He did say that if the new unit performed the same as the old one, it might just be that I am part of the small minority with fingerprints which not compatible with fingerprint technology. He also said that with fingerprint technology, it should either work or it should not; it shouldn't be tempermental. I told him I agreed with him in theory but that this had not been my experience.
My whole experience with the owner's service was highly satisfactory. He was helpful, pleasant, willing to take time to try to work with me to see if we could get it working. He also was willing to give me another thirty day trial period for the replacement safe. The company sent a prepaid return label and covered shipping both ways. This is a great company that still understands the secret of treating customers right.
When I received the new safe, I began testing it and decided it was working better, albeit not perfectly. I did allow the thirty day trial period to end, which I am now regretting. I would say that it opens for me aproximately 60% of the time. 60% does not quite cut it in my estimation. I am not sure what I am going to do with the safe now; I may repurpose it and replace it with a combination safe for the current purpose.
What I can tell you is that if it opened consistently, I would give this product five stars without hesitation.
Keeps firearms away from kid fingers.
Other areas to improve
No plate over manual key.
Ac outlet adaper, and only use battery incase of power loss.
I have submitted warranty on this safe. If this issue is resolved I will update this review.
My save was never covered under warranty. After talking on the phone with support basically I was told I need to practice how to approach the safe. Sure the safe would unlock fairly easily after I re-programmed it, but after about a week I struggled opening it with a fingerprint.
Several months down the road now and the unlock mechanism no longer works with the thumb print even though it beeps saying it was a good scan. This is the most disappointing product I have purchased from amazon in years.
