America s maximum security prisons are a world unto themselves: a realm of chaos and danger where long stretches of monotony are interrupted by explosions of sheer terror. The groundbreaking series LOCKUP: RAW goes inside the gates to get shockingly candid interviews with some of the country s most notorious criminals and the guards who are charged with trying to control them. In prisons from Alaska to Tennessee, see firsthand inmates survival strategies, the code they live by, and the perils they face. The series features previously unaired, sometimes unedited footage, of convicts who have nothing to lose.
LOCKUP: RAW also shares, for the first time, what it was like for the show s producers to work behind bars: jeopardizing their own personal safety, working amid the deafening clamor of prison, and sitting face to face with unpredictable, violent felons. Each producer has a unique story to tell, and viewers will feel they are right beside them, risking their lives to get the story.
LOCKUP: RAW SEASON ONE includes 8 original episodes on 2-DVDs

I generally enjoy progams about prison life and Lockup does a good job of presenting the inmates and their mental/emotional state behind bars. You get to know prison terminology such as "fish"(new inmate), "pruno"(jail-made alcohol), and "shank"(sharp object).
I would have liked a few more episodes on this collection(a 3 disc set would have been better). Also, the bonus material is a bit skimpy. But otherwise this is still a great collection. Looking forward to season two.
That is not to say that illness justifies the crime. However, the focus of prison is punishment and rehabilitation, not psychiatric medical treatment. Locking someone in prison whose serious and untreated or inadequately treated mental illness was the root of their behavior will not result in "rehabilitation" and these patients are often victimized in the prison setting as well. Confining them to forensic medical units is a far more therapeutic and humane approach to some of these very difficult cases. This program explains the system and what they are sometimes able to accomplish.
And again Great service thanks!
