The first time I cooked in it, the oven got covered by rust inside, and food became grey and got black flakes in it.
As was mentioned in instructions, I thought that the oven needs additional seasoning with vegetable oil. I cleaned the oven with water and cloth again, no detergent. Then let it dry and covered with olive oil inside and out.
The next cooking gave the same result: rusty insides and dirty food that I had to throw away.
My husband researched in the internet and found other people with similar problems. Some say that Lodge would do a better job if they didn't season their oven at all as this seasoning seems to be of not very high quality. In my case it was uneven, flaked away and didn't prevent from rust.
After gathering some suggestions in the internet, my husband spent a whole evening trying to put a thicker seasoning over the oven: he put multiple layers of olive oil and kept the oven on the stove at middle temperature to let the seasoning stick.
The next cooking again gave the same black-rusty results.
In addition to that, leaving the warm oven lead on the table during cooking left a black circle on the surface that I can't wash away. And drying washed oven on the table left another rusty circle on the table that I also can't wash away.
After all these highly disappointing experiences, I decided to throw away this oven before it destroyed my countertops completely.
My first cook was a honey white loaf. I just generously wiped some olive oil inside the Dutch oven and baked it. After it was done the loaf fell right out of the pan.when I turned it over, no parchment paper needed. This is hands down one of the best purchases I've made on Amazon!

I will use it for other things too, I’m sure, as I have had one before which was used for stews and casseroles, as a frying skillet and baking generally.
It increases the amount of rise in my sourdough bread by about 15% so I’m a very happy baker.
My method is simple...
I put the kneaded dough into the base with greaseproof paper under it and put it in the oven at 40 degrees to rise.
When the dough is fully risen I turn the oven up to 200 degrees and put the lid on.
I bake for 15 minutes with lid on, then remove the lid and bake for another 15 minutes.
The trapped steam allows the crust to stay soft, and increases the oven spring.
It is superb, heavy and does the job exceedingly well.

Ignore the reviews who complain of rust or poor quality casting.
The pot needs oiling after use and the casting quality is good.
Apart from being used as a dutch oven.
The pot can be used for cooking anything, stews and curries look fantastic in it against the black colour.
The lid can be used as a frying pan, once long time seasoned it does perfect fried eggs, no sticking.
The pot is also useful as a chip pan, because it holds so much heat, the oil does not cool down quickly when chips are added giving a good crisp chip.
Good as casserole dish in the oven.
I use it for sourdough bread, use it upside down, tipping the dough into the lid, then place the oven on top as the lid.
Highly recommended will last a lifetime, and gets better with time.
