Product Description

A Rooster in the kitchen is said to bring good luck and in some countries, the Rooster symbolizes integrity, honesty and honor. Now you can have this positive signature skillet in the kitchen and it cooks just as good as it looks. The Rooster image is actually cast into the back of the Lodge Cast Iron 12-inch Skillet. This kitchen favorite is a piece of multi-functional cookware that works wonders with slow-cooking recipes and all your favorite foods. This pre-seasoned Skillet works like a charm right out of the box. Pancakes, eggs, and bacon somehow taste extra hearty when cooked in a heavy cast-iron skillet. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and even loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans that just cannot handle the heat so keep those cheap pans out of your kitchen and stick with a family cast iron favorite. Fry up a mess of catfish, roast a chicken, or bake an apple crisp in this generous 12-inch pan that features two handles for heavy lifting, and two subtle side lips for pouring. While the skillet comes preseasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations. Cast iron is also works great on Induction Cook Tops as well as gas or electric. Sporting a stylish black color and Rooster design on the pan's bottom. Cast-iron should be hand-washed with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used.

If you have a ceramic electric cook top don't buy this product. They bottom as a raised ring the will not allow it to sit flat therefore not heating properly. Should be covered in description but is not

I love cooking with cast iron. The skillet does an excellent job, and I no longer use my non stick pan and rely on my skillet which I can use on my gas cooktop and in the oven. It just does a great job!

I've yet to see a lodge skillet with a smooth bottom. Try cooking an egg on something as rough as a rasp. The seasoning of the skillet is good, but I had to sand the bottom smooth & then re-season. To re-season use a very light coat of vegetable oil or lard and bake upside down in oven several hours until the oil forms a hard dry coat. Should be repeated a few times for a really good seasoning. After that it's a really good skillet.

If you could only have one cooking pan/pot, this would be it. If you can have many, this should be amongst them. Remember, always warm it up before you use it, at least three or four minutes over a medium flame. Some people say you don't need to use oil with these, but then again, some people are liars. CLEANING: Don't be afraid to get it wet when cleaning. In fact, buy the strange chain mail scrubber that works remarkably well, and while the pan is still more than just warm, run it under water and scrub it with the strange chain mail. If you don't know a good blacksmith, and have no access to chain mail, pour a bit of oil in the pan while still hot, and cover the pan in a liberal amount of salt. Use this slop to scrub all around the inside of the pan, and then rinse the slop out. Don't worry, it's good for the pipes. UPKEEP: To make sure your cast iron keeps its usability, every so often, set your oven to the highest heat setting it has, rub your pan in vegetable oil inside and out, and place it in your oven for an hour. At the end of the hour, turn off the oven, and allow your pan to remain in the oven over night. It will come out looking and feeling like the day you bought it.

My husband loves this pan. Had been wanting one for a long time and enjoys using it and how it performs. I personally would prefer for it to not have the rooster on it but, oh well.
I would say get it!

This is exactly what I thought the skillet would be, perfect! The first thing I did was roast crispy potatoes in the oven and they came out crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. It made a great sausage and potato hash as well, food comes off quite easily thanks to the pre seasoning. If anything does stay, it's cast iron so go to work on it without having to worry about damaging your skillet. I bought a chain mail cast iron scrubber that works very well with cast iron products. All in all a great inexpensive skillet that will last a life time.

My most used piece in the kitchen. It never goes in the cabinet because there is no need. I rinse it with cold water and wipe it down with a little mineral oil after each use. It cooks my meals evenly and is a breeze to clean. I also have a Lodge dutch oven that I use for bigger meals like gumbo.

It's a classic for a reason: cast iron cooking is TASTY, and with the Lodge products, you don't have to go through the seasoning process. Lodge's prices are reasonable, but I got this as flash sale one day and got it for even more of a steal. Get a cast iron pan in your life!
