Use & Care:
While the skillet comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After cooking, we recommend cleaning with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap or the dishwasher is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Towel dry immediately cleaning and apply a light coating of oil to utensil while it is still warm.
Pre-seasoned skillet is ready-to-use right out of the box
The black patina given to the cookware by the factory seasoning process is, in fact, vegetable oil that has been baked into a piece of cookware that has emerged from an individual sand mold. This coating of oil is a functional application and not a cosmetic application. The cookware is hanging as it rides through the electrostatic sprayer and commercial conveyer ovens at very high temperatures. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the pores of the iron which creates an easy release finish. As a result of this process, you may see a blister or bubble of oil at the southern-most point or at the end of the handle of the cookware piece. If visible, it will rub or flake off with your finger, leaving a brown spot. Don’t worry, it’s not rust but a seasoned spot that is brown, indicative of the varnish stage of seasoning. As a matter of fact, this is the color of home seasoned iron until it has been used several times. The brown spot will turn black with use.
The right tool for searing, sauteing, simmering, braising, baking, roasting, and frying.
Made of Cast-Iron
Cast-Iron is a form of cookware developed over a millennia ago remains as popular today as when it was used to prepare meals hundreds of years ago. Cast Iron is one of only two metals compatible with induction stovetops. Unparalleled in heat retention and even heating.
Can Be Used With A Variety of Heat Sources
At home in the oven, on the stove, on the grill or over the campfire. Skillet may be used on various heat sources including gas, electric, induction and ceramic-glass top stoves and ovens. When using on glass stove tops, be careful not to slide the cookware around as it's possible to scratch the surface. Seasoned cast iron can also be used on the grill or outdoor fire and coals for camp cooking. Begin heating cookware on low and slowly bring heat up to medium or medium/high. Always remove cookware from the stovetop after cooking.

I did make some changes and it is probably not for the faint of heart, but the day I got this pan, I got out my drill and a disk sander drill bit with 40 grit, 80 grit, 120, and lastly 180. I completely sanded down the inside of the pan which took a good while with the 40, and then systematically used the finer grits, until I got a completely polished interior. Once done, I washed it with hot water getting all the metal shavings out, and then instantly dried it and seasoned it a couple of times before using it. I attached an image to show what the pan looks like after Sanding it down.
One thing to make sure of is that the pan is hot before cooking eggs on it. But once it's hot and ready to go, I was able to put a little bit of oil and cook an egg on the pan, and I barely had to touch it. The egg just glided around the pan til I was read to flip it.
You can look up "sanding down cast iron" or more specifically "ETM: Sanding and Polishing Cast Iron cookware" on youtube which also shows what I did.
Even without sanding it down, this is an amazing pan, and will last me a lifetime.
It's not a 5 star only because there was cast flashing left in the lift assist handle, very sharp flashing. It was easly removed with a dremal tool, but, I didn't notice it till I grabbed hold of that handle.
The thing you should remember is that these are heavy and must be maintained carefully. You should not throw in the dish washer and must dry and oil after each use. Also if you have an electric stove be aware that these pots retain heat so when you lower your heat setting the pots are still retaining the heat, so you must be careful or you will burn your food. I now have induction and it is the best. Works like gas but maybe better. So if you are reading this and have an electric stove top think seriously about switching to an induction cook top. You will not regret it.
That said, only prologic lids fit prologic pans, and you'll have to look closely for the correct lid.
Lodge model# P12L3 fits this 12 inch pan perfectly.
All the other pros and cons with this pan are inherent to cast iron cookware in general. It works fine as is, even better if you put the time and effort into polishing it. If you are minimally conscious of its proper care, it'll last forever.
At around $40, its hard to single out why you'd pick this pan over other similar or cheaper priced pans, but if you do you'll easily get more than $40 of service life from this cookware.
