I read, on a baking website written by a Minnesotan, that these when melted are exactly the same as that ethereal compound sold only at Dairy Queen, the, "Red Dip." This alone was enough. I did not pass Go. I did not collect $200. I went directly to my favorite marketplace (yes, Amazon) and ordered 3 bags, thinking I'd snarf down the first bag before I even got to baking.

I'd probably have been better off had I done so. What I did was blindly add a bunch to some refrigerated chocolate cookie dough (homemade, just leftover), to make chocolate cherry chip cookies. Yummy in theory . . . in reality, not so much. No fault of the product's. You see, had I first sampled even one tasty morsel, I would not have so severely underestimated the intensity of their flavor. They are VERY potent. I enjoy them most in small doses, say 3-5 chips in a 4 inch diameter cookie, rather than the 8-10 in my batch.

This could explain the complaint some reviewers had about high cost. I, for one, do not use these as liberally as I use other morsels (chocolate, white, butterscotch, etc.) in baking, because they pack quite a punch. This can be viewed as advantageous, especially for the cost-conscious baker.

I was so surprised by the amount of flavor in these mainly because they are made in MN and were recommended by a Minnesotan. You see, my mother is from rural Minnesota, and she can often be heard saying, "Well you know I'm from Minnesota, where catsup (ketchup, if you prefer) is considered spicy," when some 3-hour gourmet concoction I've produced isn't to her liking and she doesn't want to hurt my feelings. I don't know.

Not only do these not have much of a cherry flavor, they are quite waxy in texture and not as red as I would prefer.

The price is way too high for an artificial product that does not deliver on strong flavor, almost no cherry flavor, lackluster color, only a 10 ounce package, and rarely can find a seller that does not charge for shipping.

If you really need Cherry-Flavored chips and not dried cherry pieces, try melting high-quality white chocolate and adding real cherry extract and blending with a few dark sweet cherries in a powerful blender until completely smooth. Pour out onto waxed paper to cool and chop into chips. It is a lot more work, but worth it for the final product... only if you really need it.

Avoid this these chips. They are a waste of money, calories, and full of artificial ingredients.

Fresh- verry cherry tasting....used them to enhance cherry chip cake batter when i made some cupcakes. I had also added some fresh strawberries so they were super moist and looked like the "Bloody Cherry Berry Cupcakes" i wanted for halloween.

These are a terrific addition to my plain scone mix! The cherry flavor is yummy. The color addition makes them a nice party treat for Valentine's Day or CHRISTMAS also! I used a half bag in one scone mix for about two dozen small scones. Makes for great cherry chip scones!

I made chips with these that I took to my elderly father and he really liked them. I like cherry candy but I did not care for these. He liked them and the staff liked them. These are something people either love or hate.

I will make them again for him but I won't eat any myself.

I grew up with Bing and Cherry Mash candy bars, neither are available where I live now, nor are the cherry chips as far as I could find. My cousin sent me a recipe for them, so I bought the log house cherry flavored chips to make them. My family all went nuts for them. I will have to have one of the real candy bars when I go back to NE, but if memory serves me, these chips were pretty close.

Log House Cherry Flavored Chips are a seasonal item. You have to get them as soon as they become available or you miss out and have to wait an entire year before they become available again. They are a delightful change from chocolate yet work well in conjunction with chocolate chips in cookies as well as other sweets.

I bought these for my Christmas baking - Amazon tends to be the only place I can find things like this, and I depend on them to keep my supplies going. They tasted like cherry - I used them in brownies I topped with cherry-filled kisses.
