I'd probably have been better off had I done so. What I did was blindly add a bunch to some refrigerated chocolate cookie dough (homemade, just leftover), to make chocolate cherry chip cookies. Yummy in theory . . . in reality, not so much. No fault of the product's. You see, had I first sampled even one tasty morsel, I would not have so severely underestimated the intensity of their flavor. They are VERY potent. I enjoy them most in small doses, say 3-5 chips in a 4 inch diameter cookie, rather than the 8-10 in my batch.
This could explain the complaint some reviewers had about high cost. I, for one, do not use these as liberally as I use other morsels (chocolate, white, butterscotch, etc.) in baking, because they pack quite a punch. This can be viewed as advantageous, especially for the cost-conscious baker.
I was so surprised by the amount of flavor in these mainly because they are made in MN and were recommended by a Minnesotan. You see, my mother is from rural Minnesota, and she can often be heard saying, "Well you know I'm from Minnesota, where catsup (ketchup, if you prefer) is considered spicy," when some 3-hour gourmet concoction I've produced isn't to her liking and she doesn't want to hurt my feelings. The price is way too high for an artificial product that does not deliver on strong flavor, almost no cherry flavor, lackluster color, only a 10 ounce package, and rarely can find a seller that does not charge for shipping.
If you really need Cherry-Flavored chips and not dried cherry pieces, try melting high-quality white chocolate and adding real cherry extract and blending with a few dark sweet cherries in a powerful blender until completely smooth. Pour out onto waxed paper to cool and chop into chips. It is a lot more work, but worth it for the final product... only if you really need it.
Avoid this these chips. They are a waste of money, calories, and full of artificial ingredients.
I will make them again for him but I won't eat any myself.
