The further story of warrior warlocks waging war with Templar Knights. The warlocks are charged with bringing in rogue witches & warlocks who are trying to stay independent from the covens.
Logan is actually a General in the Magus army. He's been given light duty bringing in rogues after the death of his best friend from a Knight. He finds Caitlin & the sparks fly.
I liked this one, but there were several points of contention :
Caitlin is a seer, so you'd think she'd have an edge here. Unfortunately, with divination, apparently you get whatever the gift shows you.
After her duplex is broken into, you'd think Caitlin would give some thought to her pet ferret, who's also her familiar. Nope, he's left forgotten at home.
Caitlin's sister is also a witch, but apparently they didn't know the other was too. She leaves the protection of the Magus because she doesn't want to be exploited by them. Seems dumb & her story is left hanging. Is there another story to give us resolution? Unknown.
Jonathan is the leader of the Magus & he's pretty much of a dick. The Warlock Magus doesn't seem well organized. Help is too slow to come to those in need
I really do recommend this book, and though the books in the series have no relation to one another, I think they only get better from here on out! They're sweet, simple, quick love stories!
That being said, I've read a lot of Hazel Hunter books, and this was the first one that was really pushing the herbs/ritual to cast spells and etcetera. It was a bit off-putting because it just seemed a bit too forced, and not as natural seeming as it could have been.
This book did have quite a doozy at the end however-Caitlyn's sister Sheila is talked about, has a big important part at the end, revealed she also has abilities, and then walks off into the supposed sunset and we'll probably never hear of her again. I really do hope for once that this particular story continues on with Sheila in another story!
