Taylor lost her mom nearly a year ago to violence, violence that nearly took her too. That day she lost her identity, she lost who she was. She lost what remained of her family when her dad turned away from her, and she lost the boy she thought she'd love forever. She's now turned mostly off, just surviving, but not healing.
Logan is still who we've always known. But now he finds himself drawn to this girl. A girl who he knows is somewhat damaged.
When they were together they were good. When she pulled away, Logan retreated to old ways and that is where I lost a lot of love for him. I know he was reacting to her retreating back in to herself. I thought he overreacted to that, she didn't hurt him intentionally. But it took him less than an hour to go sleep with a few other girls.
The idea that she took him back so quickly after his man ho buffet was not realistic to me.
Side note: their dad is still a huge a*hole.
Since the book was titled Logan Kade, I anticipated his POV would be front and center. Nope, most chapters were from Taylor's POV. She was a broken girl, yada yada yada. Also, the book lost me when Taylor broke up with Logan because she needed space to deal with her mom's death (which I find very hard to believe a hospital shooting was kept a secret from the public) and within hours Logan is screwing around to forget about Taylor. He is so weak! Logan then proceeds to screw around for the next month...so at least 25 girls I would say. The worst part is when Taylor catches a shirtless Logan leaving a one-night-stand's house the morning after, and she apologizes to him!!!! Yes, you read that right. Taylor later gets hurt from a bad guy, Logan apologizes, and she takes him back right away without a trip to the local STD clinic. Insert eye roll.
I have stopped reading the FC series after the 2nd (or 3rd?) book because of the weak characters. I was hoping Logan's book would redeem the series, but it fell flat.
I love all fallen crest series books and other ones from Tijan.... I waited patiently for the book to release and consumed it.... but I didn't love it. Hence why I gave it three stars. Which I hate writing less than perfect reviews. One issue I had was fact the Taylor didn't get much time with rest Logan and his "family," as in Mason, Sam and Nate. For as close as they all are there was really hardly any scenes with them that amounted to anything in the way of making a connection. I also didn't like the fact of Heather appearing in the end and acting like she was something and had the right to threaten Taylor on Logan just cause they was still friends. The entire scene felt forced and weird in my opinion.
However, my biggest issue is that as soon as the relationship seemed to be broken beyond repair what did the author do? She had Logan back to his womanizing, partying and trouble making ways! Yet the whole time Logan is dipping his stick in other holes he I thinking and picturing Taylor. So what this makes it ok? He is allowed to go and do whatever he wants with whoever but it's fine as long as he thinks of his true love? I'm sorry but that gave me the creep factor since it's just icky and no girl who was the other women would like to know he was visualizing someone else. Nor do I think women in real life would be ok with this. If the rules was reversed and the author had Taylor out doing what Logan was a huge chunk of people would hate her. We all know it's true.... Authors keep doing this form of character arc's just cause the so called "bad boys" used to do it doesn't mean as soon as they are heart broken it's like love never happened?Read more ›
Tijan - I truly don't know how she did it. She managed to succeed in what I thought would be one of the most difficult tasks IMO. She took a very well known / well loved character and gave him his own book during the time frame of where FCU ended - I had no idea how she was going to accomplish it -
1 - if you have yet to read any of the Fallen Crest books, you can totally read Logan's book as a standalone and not feel lost!
2 - Tijan wrote the book with a perfect segue into the upcoming addition to Fallen Crest without ruining ANYTHING!!
How do you do that! I mean 7.5 books later!! She did! Flawlessly!
A true testament to her talent and gift to write.
This book was so much more than I hoped - it brought tears to my eyes in both a touching/emotional way and of course laughing hysterically. Also, each character that we know and love was is in this book and ALL remained true to who they are in all the other books, I can not say enough.
"She saw through me.
She saw into me. She saw me, and she claimed me."
"Are you my taco?"
Yes, it's probably obvious that I'm a Tijan fan but I won't write a review and embellish something I don't feel strongly about - this book was outstanding.Read more ›
