Good supply with ball bearing fan, mesh sleeve, and graphics card power

Good supply with ball bearing fan, mesh sleeve, and graphics card power
The LOGISYS PS550E12BK is a ATX form factor supply that is a good choice if you need a 6-pin 12V connector to power a graphics card that requires external power. I will be comparing this supply to the similar LOGISYS PS480E12 480W 120mm Ball Bearing Switching Power Supply (which does NOT have the 6-pin connector).CONNECTORS:20+4 ATX power connector2 x 4-pin motherboard 12V power connectors1 x 6-pin graphics card power4 x molex drive connectors2 x SATA power connectorsTHE GOOD:+ Has black textured (anti-fingerprint) case+ Has one dual ball bearing 120mm cooling fan (verified by the label of the fan itself). Ball bearing fans are a must in power supplies because a bad fan will cause the power supply to cook itself to failure shortly (if you don't notice that the fan has failed). A ball bearing fan has superior lifespan over the cheaper sleeve bearing fans that are used on most power supplies. Anyway, the fan in this supply has an RPM of 1600 and is not adjustable or temperature controlled.+ This supply also has dual 12V motherboard power connectors (the 4 pin one that plugs into the motherboard). As shipped it looks like a single 8-pin connector and so you might be confused that there is no 4-pin connector at first glance. However the two connectors combine into one, so if you only have a single 4-pin connector on your motherboard (like most boards) you need to separate the two connectors. Note that the similar PS480E12 supply does not have dual 12V connectors.+ 12V power rail is higher amperage (25A) than on similar priced PS480E12 supply (16A). This is primarily because of the 6-pin 12V graphics card power connector and the dual motherboard 12V power connectors. The PS550 is rated total average power 400W (Max Power 550W), but understand that PS manufacturers intentionally rate supplies with the highest (i.e. unrealistic) wattage figure that they can advertise. Consider this a 400W supply despite the 550W rating. By comparison the PS480E12 is rated total average power 330W (Max Power 480W)+ Has nylon mesh sleeving to keep cabling tidy which is something the PS480E12 missed.+ Internally, this PS has AC line filtering components that are not in the PS480E12.THE BAD:- Has the same generic capacitors that are in the PS480E12. Time will tell whether these are quality caps. These are 1000uF caps, would have liked to see 1500uF or even 2200uF.- The internal heatsink is different from the PS480E12 - the fins do not extend to help with heat dissipation.- Some may dislike that there is no fancy LED fan (I don't care).OVERALL I would buy this supply over the PS480E12. As I write this it is actually slightly cheaper so it's an easy decision to recommend this power supply.I hope this has been useful!

The Logisys PS550E12BK arrived from Amazon today as scheduled in a real big box along with a case of the Prevail maximum absorbancy pads I ordered for my mom. I really didn't know what I was in for with the Logisys unit, but I figured I'd give it a try to see if it was even a little quieter than the Diablotek PSDA450A that was in the machine I had built about a year ago. I really had no big complaint about the Diablotek, but my computer in my bedroom was placed such that the Formica cabinet greatly reverberated whatever sound the computer had internally generated. Well, I started watching the movie "Cold Creek Manor". It's one of them later Sharon Stone movies; nothing that could get your vitals excited even if you were of a mind to. Anyway, after drinking a good quart of Almaden Cabernet in the box (it tries to be all fancy by calling them liters) and medicating with two 5 mg hydrocodones (for my back ya know) I figured now was as good a time as any to rip apart my computer and replace that "Conair hair dryer" of a power supply. Since it would have been too cold to go to the basement workshop and drag everything downstairs, I just set up shop right in my bedroom by stripping all the covers off my bed and using it as my work area. The first thing I have to mention about the Logisys, is that is packaged real nice. When I first
saw the box it came in I thought of those real fancy little square French pocketbooks. Yep, there is even a little carry
handle on the box, and the internal packaging is quite fine too. Installing it was no pain at all, at least I wasn't feeling any. The power supply box part is black metal in a matte finish. It "looks" better made to me than the power supply I replaced. The cables are all braided up in what looks like black fish net nylons. Kinda keeps everything in good order. Other folks have already noted that there are only two SATA connnectors. So be forewarned! If you need more SATA connectors get the adapter cables (Molex to SATA). Molex, sounds like some Swiss health food. To make a longish story a bit less long, the power supply works just fine and is much quieter than the Diablotek it replaced. I can still hear my computer (only when it's turned on of course), but now most of the the fan noise I hear I would suppose is from the little cpu fan (most folks would have no idea what noise I am talking about but I have been cursed with exceptional hearing acuity). As far as power output wattage; I could only tell you I'm running a modest Gigabyte board (no video card), 1 hard drive and one solid state drive. The Logisys box says 550 watts. I would be very circumspectful about that claim. While I am no engineer and have no test data from the Philco Television test laboratories to support my suppositions, just looking at, as well as holding this power supply I have doubts that it would be able to continously push through enough energy to juice up half a 1957 Sunbeam toaster...... but if your hankering for a well-built, modestly-priced power supply, the Logisys is as good as any I have purchased (and I built 5 computers in the last 6 years). Just get those extra connectors if you are going to need them. And the bed makes a perfect work surface as long as you don't push too hard.

This is a great bang for your buck power supply! recently we had a bit of a power surge, I have all of my electronics behind a UPS (or at least a surge protector), but my dad unfortunately did not. Two computers, one TV and Three gaming consoles down the drain... or so he thought.

Thing is most electronics use DC power, this means that they have a set of rectifiers that turn your AC power in your walls into various voltages of DC power for your electrics. Great thing about this is in the event that you get way too much AC power coming in, that's the first thing to go; which is great because they are one of the easier parts of a machine to replace. So I bought two of these and one Molex to SATA adapter, and the computers were squared away.

One point to note, If you're worried about buying a power supply that "only" costs this much, don't. The one that your computer came with probably cost less than ten bucks, so this power supply is considerably better than the one you had before. The fan is ball bearing so it will probably last longer than your last one, and the cables are jacketed so they will actually look nicer and be easier to manage than your old ones, but honestly if this is a replacement for a stock machine you probably don't/shouldn't care about that.

It works, it's cheap and will probably outlast the rest of the machine if it's for replacement purposes. My only complaint (if you can really call it that) is that this would be all the better if it came with a couple Molex to SATA adaptors, so it would be out of the box ready to power newer machine;. but really those are cheap enough to buy separate so I'm thrilled with this Power Supply.

What is good, packaging. it worked, its quiet, cables are a good length.

What is not good. IT IS NOT A 550 Watt PSU, go very careful!!! I believe that it runs around 400w. This psu runs my wifes HP win8 machine fine until the graphics card (EVGA GeForce GTX 650 1024MB GDDR5 DVI mHDMI Graphics Card 01G-P4-2650-KR) has to deal with any decent and graphically demanding game, such as World of Warcraft, World of Tanks etc. Then it makes the PC just shut down randomly, I purchased this PSU with the graphics card, as I knew I would need a better/more powerful PSU than the one that came with the PC (a 350watt), I regret doing this cheaply and should have gone for a higher quality, better brand such as Corsair, Rosewil or Coolermaster, more expensive....Yes BUT you get what you pay for and not a misleading brand like this. I would not recommend this brand to anyone I am sad to say.

Great Product, I've had it for a few months now. Works Pretty much right out of the box with the exception that when it was delivered it was very chilly (7*F) outside so I had to let it warm up. Although it says 550 Watt Power supply, it's max output is around 750 Watts. The fan is nice/quiet, it keeps my case a little cooler.

Pros: Works well, quiet, not too expensive (most PSU's aren't). I have a lot of extra SATA power plug-ins, 8-Pin connectors, and LP4-outputs for any future expansion.

Cons: Not modular, but that's obvious. I chose not to buy a modular one.

Extra Notes: There are no 4-Pin CPU supplementary power outputs so if you have a 4-Pin configuration, your going to need an extra conversion wire as I did.

Would I recommend this to somebody? Yes, it was money well spent, and it has met my expectations thus-far.
