Another reviewer incorrectly wrote that the Enter key on this keyboard does not have the same functionality as the Enter key on a PC keyboard. That isn't quite true. I used this keyboard to enter URLs on my PC and hit "Enter" and I was whisked away to my favorite websites with ease. Using the Enter key in this fashion won't work on the Wii but that is because of the console's operating system, not through any fault with the keyboard. In any case, you simply use the "OK" key when using the keyboard with your Wii.
This keyboard is smaller than most PC keyboards. If you look at a standard, full size keyboard and note the distance from the left side all the way to the Backspace, Enter and rightmost Shift key, you'll have a rough idea as to the size of this keyboard. You won't miss any keys though, you still get the number keys, function keys, arrow keys, etc. The only keys I don't see are the ones that are not needed for the Wii such as PrintScreen, the expanded side number keys, etc.
The keyboard itself is light but has a decent feel to its build quality. It won't stand up to the keyboards that cost $100 or more but it is more solid than you'd expect for a third party keyboard for a Nintendo system. It is comfortable to hold in your lap while on the sofa.
The keyboard comes with two AA batteries (WE like that) and a USB receiver. The receiver is a tad smaller than two pieces of Chiclet gum laid side by side. That's fairly large compared to my Blue Track mouse receiver but still small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. I'm impressed with how far away you can sit from the receiver and still use the keyboard. I think that it is safe to say that this keyboard will work fine in the vast majority of peoples' living room set ups.
So little Wii owner, do you need this keyboard? Maybe. If you play text heavy games such as Animal Crossing: City Folk, a keyboard is a must. The viral nature of the game means that your letters, poems and banter can reach players all over the world and it is just too tedious to type with the Wiimote. A keyboard really helps with that and a wireless one is just a bit more practical. While you can use virtually any wireless USB keyboard with the Wii, this one includes a few Wii specific buttons such as "Zoom" and "Ok". The styling also matches the Wii console and its compact size makes it very comfortable to use in the living room.
If you play text heavy games, send lotsof messages to friends or browse the web from your Wii, this keyboard is worth picking up. I paid $14.90 for a new keyboard but I'd say any price around $25 or so makes this product a good buy.
All that being said, I think the product, a working one, that is, will probably end up being a decent product that I would recommend to others.
As for the keyboard, there are a few keys that aren't used (like the zoom ones) and the windows key is missing. Also, Ctrl is only on the left and the Alt key is only on the right. PgUp PgDn End and Home are accessed via holding down a Fn key. The keyboard seems to sleep after a while and I really haven't tested battery life yet since it's been only a week. Obviously it uses minimal battery power in sleep mode, otherwise the keyboard would have died after 1-2 days. I could be wrong though since the light under the power switch on the bottom is always off. The only time it seemed to light up was when you first turn it on. Strange.
Overall a solid performer.
UPDATE: (10/28/10) We are still on our first set of batteries, unlike another reviewer who said his only lasted 2 weeks; perhaps it's cuz we only use it sporadically 5 days a week, 8-5pm. No problems so far (knock on wood).
UPDATE: (12/19/10) Still on the first set of batteries. Still no problems...
