When I first purchased them, I was looking for some 'better than decent' speakers for my home computer. However, these speakers do not just provide room-filling sound, they go far beyond that and with quality sound. Initially I kept the speakers on the window sill behind my desk, however on such a small space & with the volume high these speakers tended to dance around a little bit, so I found the much better place for them is on my desk beside the monitor. Read more Read more	Takes a minute but they're awesome By J. F. Hindy on January 26, 2014 Verified Purchase Quick pros and cons 1. The cable between the two speakers is ~5ft long. This is great for me I have a 2-monitor set-up and I needed to find a pair with a cable long enough to put them on either side. These do that with room to spare. 2. The sound is clear. It actually took me by surprise. My last pair were a little more bassy so I thought something was off but really it's just better sound reproduction. I do a lot of audio recording (voiceovers for videos, podcasting) and my voice sounds good on these. It also captures reverb very well (damn reverb, need to upgrade my audio set up next!) 3. These sound nice. The highs aren't bad, the mids aren't bad, and the bass isn't bad. I mean they're not like amazing great but these are also $25 speakers. This is probably the best noise I've ever gotten out of $25 speakers. 4. My last pair of speakers were USB powered and I grew to hate that. These are AC powered (6ft long power cable) and that makes me happy. 5. The volume has a good, high quality feel to it. 6. The speakers are deceptively light and made of plastic, but they look really nice with my whole set up. 7. The 2.5" drivers per speaker definitely do their job. Also, these speakers can get pretty loud before getting all nasty sounding. Not like rattle-the-windows loud, but definitely louder than you'll need them to be. Cons 1. The tone knob is rubbish. Put it in the center and use your computer's system equalizer if you need to mess with it. 2. These things are huge! Easily the size of my forearm. I wasn't expecting them to be that large. It ended up not being a problem (hence no stars removed). 3. Read other thoughts Other Thoughts These things take a bit to "burn in". I had them shipped and it's winter time so they may have just been cold but the first couple of hours I spent tweaking every setting on my computer trying to figure out why everything sounded so muted. The bass sounded fine, but the mids and highs sounded a tad muffled (like the sound you get when you put your hand over a speaker. I turned the music off, reset everything to default (where I had started from) and let them chill for a few hours. Then, while I was out, I put them up on moderate volume and, without messing with any equalizers, put some music on and left them playing for 5 or so hours. Once they warmed up and got a little burn in, they sounded much better. For most cases I use default on all the system noises but in Winamp I chose a preset that boosts the bass and treble a little bit. Even when burnt in, the lows and bass need a little boosting to keep up with the mids. Now I'm quite happy with how everything sounds. They require a little work, but once you get them settled in these are a fantastic pair of speakers and probably among the best you can get until you start getting into 2.1 speakers. ***Update August 1st, 2014* I bought a second pair of these speakers. My girlfriend's speakers died and I gave her the original ones I bought (still going strong after 7 months) and I bought myself another pair. This time it was shipped during the summer so the speakers weren't submitted to the harsh, frigid cold of winter time like the first pair. Thanks to this, the problems I experienced the first time around were much less pronounced and much easier to fix. The "burn-in" wasn't really required at all and once I got the volume and such configured everything worked pretty well. It took me about a day with the first pair but this time around it only took a couple of hours of use before they sounded good. I guess that means most of the problems were simply because they were cold when I first plugged them in. It keeps its 5 star rating. I have bought two of these and would buy a third. I'll update if either of these break down but until then, I'm still happy with my purchase. Still gets my vote on the best $25 speakers around. I'd say I'd buy them again but I just kind of did so yeah I'd probably buy them a third time. *Update May 6th, 2015* Happened to be goofing around notice that this was the highest rated review. Cool! So I thought I'd do an update. Both sets of these speakers still work flawlessly (my girlfriend's pair that I gave her and my current pair). They both still sound great. If these broke, I would still buy these over again (unless, of course, I had like some serious cash to spend on a serious set of speakers). I still do my audio recordings, albeit on much better hardware than before. My recordings still sound great on these. I've had no problems with them whatsoever. They survived moving without breaking and a fried motherboard without flinching. I still recommend these to people :) *Update December 18th, 2016*** Still the best ~$25 speakers out there. Both pairs still work after years of use. These days I have to keep the sound down as my roommate works night shift so these actually didn't get used for about 10 months (been using headphones). Still, I didn't see a need to add yet one more plug to my already overtaxed surge suppressor, so I went with "it'll work", and it did, right up until it didn't. The audio is crystal clear, the sound is sharp. There's just enough bass to make it feel "full". In short, I was impressed. I wasn't expecting a lot from $13 USB powered speakers, but I really was impressed. If you're on a budget and need a reliable pair of quality speakers, these are the speakers you want. Believe me. I wish you could hear them, I really do, but trying to show you how good these speakers are when you're obviously looking for better speakers than what you got just really defeats the purpose. I bought these for my laptop after reading some reviews here that said they were great for their small size and the carrying case was a plus. I plugged these into my computer and they worked for all of five minutes. I went to the Logitech site discussion/support and I wish I had gone their first because I found more people with problems that I did here. This is my first purchase from Amazon too and I wish that the "not so good" reviews had been evident too. Unfortunately they were not or I never would have bought these. There seems to be lots of questions regarding compatibility with Windows Vista adnd 7 and Logitech does not seem to want to anwser the issue after numerous requests on their site and their email support was miserable. I boxed these disfuctional speakers up the next day and shipped them right back to Amazon. I will always question the quality of Logitech from here on out because I don't like buying something online and it working for five minutes just for me to have to turn around and return it and wait longer to receive a refund to buy something that might actually work. After I returned them, I plugged in my cheap Coby speaker system to my computer...and how beautifully it worked! Surprising how a normally low end product name like Coby worked exactly like I had thought the Logitech product would work. I do NOT recommend wasting your money on these speakers!

4 years and still great!!

I bought these speakers on June 18th, 2008 and they're still working great as day 1! I specifically wanted USB cable speakers instead of adapters so I don't always have to look for electric outlets. Been worth the 35 bucks I paid for them back then!

Windows shortcoming: In windows, if you already have the speakers plugged in and you open a new program the speakers automatically pick up the audio. Nonetheless, if the program is already open and you decide to add the speakers, you'll have to close and reopen the program for the speakers to transmit audio from that program. On a mac, the speakers take over if you plug them before or after a program has been initiated.

Update 05/08/2012: so it seems like one of the speakers stops working if the cable connecting it to the other speaker isn't pushed in a certain way. Had I taken care of it a bit better it'd have still been working. I"ve dropped these speakers several times and I'm AMAZED how long they've lasted since so many products just stop working since the material used is cheap. I'm a big fan of good quality products and of all my electronics this is the only one that has lasted for years!

Great Netbook Speakers

I travel frequently, and carry a netbook with me everywhere I go. I hate the sound of the built-in speakers in laptops and netbooks and resorted to listening to music using earphones. However, being tied down with earphones or headphones while relaxing in a hotel room proved to be very inconvenient. I wanted good sounding speakers that were lightweight, easy to transport, with a volume loud enough to fill up a room. I didn't want to carry extra power supplies or batteries due to the extra weight (airlines are becoming very strict about the baggage weight limit and charging extra for being overweight).

I purchased the Logitech V20 USB powered speakers about 4 months ago, as they seemed to meet my requirements. They were lightweight and came in a very nice carrying case, which protected the speakers when being transported in my check-in baggage. Because it is USB powered, it uses the netbook battery for power. No extra power supplies or batteries to carry for these speakers. I have a Samsung N110 netbook Samsung N110-12PBK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery (9.5 Hours), which is small, lightweight and easy to carry in my hand-carry bag, and has a very long battery life, so it runs the V20 speakers a long time at a good volume; over 6 hours on the netbook battery power. This is very handy during power outages as the speakers are not affected by it, using netbook battery power instead of external power.

These speakers use one USB port on the netbook to operate. They work well and I've had no problems whatsoever. The only setup required is to plug the speakers into the netbook before opening the computer program you're going to listen to. This ensures that the sound goes to the V20 speakers instead of the netbook speakers.

The sound is very good for such portable speakers. The bass is surprisingly good and the overall sound quality is good. I am really enjoying these speakers on my travels, listening to iTunes and internet radio. These speakers travel with me everywhere I go.
