Large palms, short fingers--this is the mouse for you.

Been using a pair of these--mobile and desktops--for 5 years and lovin it! Like others, i treid a vareity of different ones before finding this one.

Besides the noted features in other reviews, I'd like to add the size of this mouse is ideal for those of us with large palms and short fingers. When I was searching for a mobile mouse, at that time they seemed to come in two sizes: standard and really small. The standard mouse combined a high profile and the end-to-end length was sufficiently long that between the two: my hand rapidly became fatigued or I couldn't really operate it properly because my large palm and short fingers my hand positioning didn't quite match up with the mouse buttons/features locations. The micro or mini mouses were even worse.

The V500 has a much lower lower profile and better design and fits my hand perfectly. Might not work for all, but give it a try if you have short fingers.

One other note--the battery life on this mouse is incredibly long--one pair of batteries easily supporting 3 months of daily use.

Great Mouse (4.5 stars, actually)

The Logitech V500 is superior in every way to the previous Microsoft cordless notebook mouse that I had before I purchased this one.

It is more responsive and consumes less batteries than the MS variety. In the six months that I have been using this, I've changed out the batteries two times. One thing to note, if you're in a bind, you only need one AAA battery to run the mouse. The slot is for two batteries, and Logitech says that it is optimal to have two, but it does work with one.

It's also sleeker and thinner as the USB transmitter can be placed inside the mouse. To turn it off, just collapse the mouse via a sliding button on the bottom of the mouse.

My only gripe with it (and this is why I say 4.5 and not the full 5 stars) is the touch scroll wheel. It does take some getting used to, and I have full functionality, but there isn't the nice feedback response that you get with a wheel.

Overall, however, I love this mouse and hope to be using it for years to come!

Great Performance & Very Accurate

Great Mouse. Bought 10 years ago and it is still working. Very durable. Comes with a zippered case that makes it very convenient if you need to be mobile. Very fast & accurate response. Great for presentations as I've used it from 20 feet away from my laptop. Never bought a Logitech product that I wasn't fully happy with.

This is my second V500 mouse; my first one lasted several years before finally giving out. Logitech no longer makes this product, so I had to buy from an individual merchant. The scrolling mechanism is smoother than scrolling wheels, which is why I made the effort to track down another V500 rather than settle on what I could find in a store. It may not as versatile as some mouses, but for what it does, this mouse works as well as, if not better than, any other cordless laptop mouse I have used.

It's a fantastic mouse, w/a bunch of little annoying bits

In general this is a very good mouse, with good portability features, like having a tiny usb adapter that fits in the mouse itself. nice. But it's plagued with a bunch of little problems:

1) The scroll pad-sounds like a fantastic thing, not only scrolls up and down, but side to side. But the thing is oversensitive, so if I barely brush it with my fingertip, I often find myself scrolling up when i wanted to scroll down. And often it starts scrolling upwards because I've rested my finger on the up arrow, so now basically i have to keep my finger completely away from that area if I don't want anything unexpected to happen. Conversely, i have a hard time getting it to scroll down just by touching the bottom arrow, it's very touchy going down. What a hassle.

The side to side arrows aren't much use at all, brushing sideways makes the horizontal scroll bar move about 3 pixels per stroke. What a hassle. I'd rather use the Mac's built-in shift-scroll feature to scroll sideways.

2) The sound-the little clicking noise it makes when you scroll is kinda cool, but I'd like to be able to turn it off.

3)-The speed-I guess portable mice are supposed to move quicker to allow for better manuverability in small spaces, but the problem is that whatever settings were changed when I installed this mouse caused my old (Logitech) mouse to get slower! I can't just swap my old and new mice and have them move at the same speed, I have to go to the prefs and change the mouse speed ever time I switch mice. What a hassle.

4) The installation-did I mention I was a Mac user? Unfortunately for us Mac users this mouse didn't work right out of the box (unlike 99% of the other USB, 2-button scroll wheel mice out there, which work perfectly with MacOS X with no drivers needed), but had to have drivers installed, which *weren't on the CD*!! Had to be downloaded. What a hassle.

Overall this is fine optical mouse, but with new not-so-advanced technology which makes the scrolling experience frustrating. The Mac-specific stuff is frustrating, too, but not a deal-breaker. Overall a bit disappointing. I wish I could buy this mouse with a standard scroll wheel, and I wish Logitech wouldn't make the speed settings of their mice different.
