This is the best trackball ever invented. Even without a scroll wheel, it is still the easiest t use and minimizing fatigue. It is so hard to find one. I have been using mine for almost 20 years now and am glad to have found one in good shape. I used a regular mouse for awhile while transitioning between my old and new computer and it was such a pain compared to this trackman. It is a sin that Logitech was forced to quite making this design. Especially when whoever promulgated the lawsuit never followed through with making their own version. A great design lost to the world. So very sad it is.

I found this device to be much harder to get used to than originally thought. The trackball was in an odd position which I did not find at all comfortable. I have fairly large hands and still found it difficult to use the buttons which were also very difficult to get used to. Most of all I missed having my scroll wheel in the middle. I have over the years become very accustomed to that feature and did not like the way this device works around this button. It was however sensitive with its tracking and felt comfortable except when I had to use it. It was also fairly easy to setup although WIN XP gave me a little trouble at first recognizing the drivers the device came with. Also the price I found was a bit high after using it which between the comfort and price along with my middle scroll wheel button earned its rating.

The most perfect pointing device ever. Except...

I think that Logitech really screwed the pooch when they dropped this design. It was FANTASTIC. It felt great in your hand and was incredibly accurate.

The only issue with it was its lack of a scroll wheel. The USB version of this was great, but also lacked a scroll wheel. For most people, a cord on a trackball isn't a liability. The trackball doesn't need to move around, so the cord doesn't get in the way. Unfortunately, Logitech dropped this line in favor of the cordless "Trackman Optical". The TO is no slouch, I've been using one for years. (I have also bought quite a few for users in my company who had repetitive strain injuries from using mice) Still, the TO isn't nearly as elegant and pleasant to use as the FX.

I suppose that there is just not enough market for trackballs for Logitech to continue making new products, but I'll keep watching and hoping that something this good comes back on the market.

The best pointer input device I've ever found.

This has been the only pointer input device that I can use 10+ hours per day, every day, without any negative side effects (such a arm, wrist or hand pain). I've been using these trackballs since when they released in 2000. Even though it's feeling a bit dated, especially without a scroll-wheel, rather than switch to something more modern, I still prefer to use the Cordless Trackman FX. For those annoying apps that require a scroll-wheel for some function (and don't have another option). I just keep another mouse/trackball close by which has scroll-wheel.

I think Logitech are crazy to not make an updated version of this device. This is near perfection from a design and use point of view. I understand stand the original reason Logitech stopped producing it was due to a patent infringement (or something like that) lawsuit. But the patent has since expired, and an update version should be perfectly feasible.

I'll keep searching for alternatives which might fit the bill, but I doubt I'll be giving up my Cordless Trackman FX any time soon.

My hands are large-ish (not massive), that might make a difference, YMMV.

For my big hands this is the best. I've had to buy two refurbished ones over the years since it is no longer manufactured. Too bad - they had a winner there.

Very comfortable to use

I had never used a trackball for any long period of time before using this one. That was because all of the other trackballs that I have tried seem a lit akward to control. The Logitech Cordless Trackman FX Optical Trackball solves this problem by placing the ball between your thumb and fingers allowing you to be able to use either your thumb or your fingers to control the pointer. This made it a lot less akward for me to use than other trackballs, especially for more precise movement.
The trackball also has several buttons that can be programmed to perform a variety of tasks. These buttons are placed conveniently and are comfortable to use.
The only drawback that I found was I think it could have offered a better method of wrist support.
