Limited RGB (just kidding, there is no G, only R and B) but back then it was new. You get blue...red...or whatever shade of purple your heart desires. It was wicked, super helpful for low light.
Everything is plastic so it doesn't have the modern demand of a "premium feel" but it's sturdy enough; it's lasted through several moves, all the buttons work, no lights have gone out, nothing's fallen off, etc.
12 G keys on the left are pretty cool if you need that. If not, they'll be annoying. I don't think I'll want them on a future board but they were incredible when I needed them.
Very wide keyboard, so if you want to use something like a G13 along with this it may make you have to angle your arms out too wide.
No issues on Windows 10 or with the Logitech software the entire time I've had it.
I don't know when this brick is gonna die on me but it's the reason I normally buy Logitech products; they all seem to last as long as you're not a heathen with them. Whenever I do get a new keyboard it's gonna be all space age with the super fancy mechanical keys and an entire bonus color upgrade to RGB for super happy fun rainbow times.
I rarely use the USB port but it has been useful to have when I wanted to charge something and keep it within reach of me.
This keyboard is huge, it's roughly 20 inches long and the keys can be hard to pop and clean.
When it comes to the colors, you are going to choose between three colors, blue, red, and purple. No green, or yellow, or anything in between, this is not an RBG keyboard. And the backlight is not bright. During the night, if you are using the blue or purple backlight, you will barely be able to see the keys. Keyboards today are much brighter than this one.
This keyboard has lasted me this long but is now I feel like its dying on me. These past few weeks the keyboard would remain lite but it would stop typing, and replugging it would fix it... until the next time it stops working. The lights are very dim and hard to see at night. It is now time for me to look for a replacement. I would buy this keyboard again if it were not for the increase in price, since the only feature I will miss the most are no longer found in new Logitech keyboards, which is the headphone AND microphone inputs built in. But this keyboard has been great for the six years I've had it.
I don't do much gaming, and when I do I don't really see much use for macros in the games I play. That being said, I do work as an AutoCAD designer, and bought these for that purpose. This is where I find these macro keys to be invaluable. I can perform multi-key commands extremely quickly with these. They also are turning out to be useful for my home music studio, where I can automate some functions with these.
There are 12 programmable keys, and three memory banks, so in total you get 36 macro functions. You can program each bank to display a different color, so you can easily determine whether you're in the correct bank for what you're doing.
Recording the macros is extremely easy, as is configuring the lights. The backlights are not that great. They are quite uneven. They do serve their purpose though.
I like having dedicated music controls, and the volume wheel is great, however it's too slow. It takes 14 revolutions to go from 0-100 volume. I'd prefer it to be 'less sensitive' but there don't seem to be any settings for this. The big mute button is great, as are the media controls, all nicely laid out where they are easy to find, but not in your way.
I use a Plantronics .Audio 355 Multimedia Headset for use with Skype, and when plugged into the ports on the keyboard, I love having the two mute buttons (mic and headphones) so I can cough (or complain) in meetings without disturbing the other people on the line. Having it easily accessible on the keyboard (with a red led to indicate when I'm muted) is a very nice thing.
I have my wireless mouse USB dongle plugged in to the port on the keyboard, and it works fine.
The keys are pretty standard, they feel fine but aren't cherry switches or anything. I'm a bit old school when it comes to keyboard layouts. I can't stand the 'alternative' key placement for the arrows/pgup/pgdn/etc, and I require a good number pad. Mess with those sections of the keyboard, and my workflow goes to crap. This keyboard is good, with a standard layout.
I sometimes hit the macro keys when I'm trying to hold down the left Ctrl key with my pinky. I would have preferred either a different placement, different key 'type', or greater spacing between the standard keys and the macros to avoid that.
There have been a couple of times when my PC crashed, and on reboot when Windows asked me to select either to boot normally or run a fix, the keyboard wouldn't respond. It's like it wasn't completely initialized or something. Quite annoying, but likely a problem with my PC and not the keyboard.
Overall this is a good keyboard, but a bit expensive for what it is. The macro keys really make me much quicker at work, and the bells and whistles like the USB and headset ports, and media keys are really nice to have.
Top reviews from other countries
The keyboard takes getting used to since the game keys are on the left of the keyboard but probably one of the best gaming keyboard out there.
The built in soundcard is quite a nice feature and the extra USB port on the keyboard is superb for a wired gaming mouse.
Worth buying
I love it.
Still works like a charm. only one complaint is of course the wire, can be messy if you dont know how to cable manage with your others cables from other devices!! oh and... the lights... not a lot of choices. There is only RED BLUE AND PURPLE,
No GREEN!!!!!
and some keys are not illuminated properly. But It doesnt really matter. More for aesthetics.
lot of g keys although i dont use them that much nor the extra keys on top.
The best thing about this keyboard is the lighting makes playing in the dark easy.
