Still Turning Laps Five Years Later

This was a spectacular entry level wheel at the time. It comes with everything you need for a wide variety of sims and vehicles. Pedals with a clutch. Check. Force feedback on 900 degrees of wheel rotation. Check. Paddle shifters. Check. Stick shift. Check. Plenty of buttons, plug and play at the time, etc etc etc. Check check check. It was great. And five years later and after going down many many virtual roads it still works just as well as it did when I got it. I've never felt the need to upgrade as it continues to hold up.

The software side of things did get left behind when the world switched to Windows 10. Logitech made new software for their peripherals that have come out since the G27. So the "Logitech Profiler" software this uses hasn't gotten support in years. And that wasn't an issue until Windows 10 came along. Windows 10 likes to recognize the G27 as a "Logitech Driving Force GT" wheel sometimes. Which is an even older wheel from Logitech with far less features. This can mess up your wheel rotation and force feedback in games and make the G27 seem like a dud. Luckily this can be solved by jumping through hoops when you install the software. But it's still enough of a mess that I don't always recommend the G27 anymore. Plus, I got mine new for $200 USD in 2015, and now they are going for that, or more, in 2020. And these are for USED products. Wild times.

An amazing wheel that takes a little extra effort to make work these days, but if you can get one, you'll enjoy it.

Logitech refuses to respond to years old persistent issue in own forum.

Common problem can arise permanently fixable by voiding warranty and spending more money. There is a cog with holes inside of the unit, that gets noticed by infrared or some sort of light, which converts into the amount of wheel turn recognized by your gaming device. It can get a hairline crack as did mine, and have to be fixed, which you should replace with a brass encoder it is called, and not cheap. Original encoder is plastic and lasted a month or two, but the brass encoder has lasted a ton of use. Logitech refuses to comment in their own commend thread about this issue after years and years in the thread, so be aware on new models that this may be an ongoing issue perhaps. I still recommend it, and recommend using a velcro mod on the shifter so that it doesnt feel or sound like plastic when you hit the stick into a gear. Huge improvement to look into on youtube. Also replacing the springs in the pedals with the entire nixim pedal mod springs, is phenomenal for 60 USD. Must do mods.

Great piece of hardware. Definitely a 5-star in every category for the price. The next wheel up from this one is basically a $500 setup, so it's a big price gap where nothing really competes with the G27. The only thing I don't like about the hardware is the hard-to-grip vice twist things, whatever you want to call the clamping system. It's like they make it hard to grip so you can't twist it so hard you break the plastic that it's made of. However, it's barely possible to make it tight enough to stay in position, but it is possible so that's not a huge deal. I want to be able to quickly set it up and take it down, though, and it's cumbersome to say the least.

I take away 1 star for terrible, awful Logitech software. Two things: 1) Logitech Gaming Software stopped supporting the G27 back in version 5.1. It's on version 8.xx now. You will be running two version of LGS side by side if you use other Logitech hardware, like a gaming mouse that 90% of G27 owners probably have. 2) The download for the old version 5.10 LGS is broken for 64-bit users. If you choose to download the 64-bit version, you get the 32-bit version and it will not install on 64-bit Windows. Oh it acts like it installs and says it completes, but if you pay attention you will see it takes zero seconds to copy files during the install while it should take at least 5 seconds to copy files. After the install, you look for it on your Start Menu and nothing is there. Confusing. No where on the web page does it make mention of this problem. You might get lucky and find the correct 64-bit download posted in the Logitech forums without too much searching. I bet someone in the Amazon comments has a link to the download as well. Basically, it's typical Logitech: Great hardware, terrible software...just like their Harmony remotes and their mouse software until recently.

Other thoughts: The wheel-weight (how hard it is to turn the wheel when driving) is heavy. I don't have experience with force-feedback wheels except for an old Logitech Momo wheel, so maybe I'm just not used to it. However, I have driven several cars and trucks in my life and they are all pretty easy to turn with one hand. However, when using a G27 or the Momo, it's like driving a big-rig without power-steering. I'm pretty sure the STi I'm driving in-game has power steering, yet I'm getting a work-out with both arms trying to turn the wheel. Ya, I get it, I'm racing in the game so it should be hard, but it's just not realistic to me. Small little turns at 50mph in a car with power steering should be doable with like 1 finger. Some games have a wheel-weight setting (Assetto Corsa maybe? I forget because I've been trying lots of driving games), but I couldn't feel a difference between 0%, 10%, 90%, and 100%. I'll research this a bit and see if I can make it more realistic in the games I'm playing (Assetto Corsa, GRID, GRID2, DiRT2, Euro Truck Sim 2, F1 2012, etc.). Speaking of Assetto Corsa...wow this game makes it feel like every car has butter all over its tires. Turning the wheel a little bit at 35mph and I'm just squealing the tires and plowing through corners. This is supposedly accurate though...I guess the true sims take a while to get used to after playing Codemaster games a lot.

Dieses Lenkrad ist wirklich jeden Cent Wert, wenn man gute Verarbeitung, extrem gute Haptik und Funktionalität haben will.
Zwar gibt es schon länger Nachfolgermodelle, aber leider hat die Qualität der Produkte von logitech mit den Jahren sehr nachgelassen. Deswegen empfehle ich jedem weiterhin das G27. Einrichtung unter Windows 10 ist kein Problem. Mit entsprechenden Adaptern bzw. Konvertern soll es sogar an der Xbox One funktionieren.

Works great and the Logitech profiler is pretty straightforward. Not very comfortable to use the pedals because of the way the pedals rotate. I find myself pressing down on the top of the pedal more than following the natural rotation of the mechanism. Too bad really but no way around the design because its base is on the floor. Would probably work better if you have a lower desk. Basically if I am in sock feet my ankle aches after a while so I wear footwear with a firm sole and its fine. Pretty heavy pedal effort and the brake is heavier than the clutch and gas just like it should be.

I can see why the playseats are popular or even the folding stand. I haven't used the shifter yet because its so bulky and I can't easily mount it on my desk edge. If you don't care about your desk the best bet is to remove the clamps and bore a hole in your desktop then use a metal screw into the pre tapped hole on the bottom of the shifter.

Very solid quality on the whole unit, Actual metal parts and leather covering makes you feel special. For the price it should be high quality and it delivers on that front.

Awesome addition to gaming especially simulator games. Solid design and built to last for years if taken care of properly. When setting this up and after downloading software, I recommend going into the settings and changing a couple of things. You Tube helped me with this as there's lots of videos out there to help you out getting set up as well as videos to show how the G27 can be set up with individual games. I can proudly give this product a 10/10 as it is a Logitech product and they build their equipment very well. Most my accessories are Logitech (G13, G700s).

I was rather hesitant about buying this at first.

I was wondering if I should just go the last 5 miles and get the Thrustmaster T500 for my simcade racing experiences. Boy, was I wrong about this wheel. For a beginner, it's more than enough. Quality construction on everything aside from perhaps the 6-speed shifter which seems to be a touch plastic-y and iffy when doing quick or sudden gear changes. Not a huge thing, just something I noticed while racing in Assetto Corsa.

FFB is adequate, I don't have any true grips about it. Pedals are a seriously solid, full metal construction. They could use custom coils though. I found the brake pedal to be way too stiff while the gas pedal to be way too loose.

Overall I'd give this a 5/5 so far.
DiRT Rally is a blast and the roads in Assetto Corsa really reflect back to you in the wheel.
Is it going to be as good as the high level Thrustmaster wheels? No. But you're also not paying TS level prices with this either.

I might come back after a couple months to update on how things are going with it, but so far I'm more than satisfied.

Any sim or arcade racing enthusiasts should get the G27 since it provides the best playing experience that you can get out of your games. The built quality is top of the line and attention is brought to every construction details. My races are much more exciting and immersing. I bought Dirt3, NFS' Shift2, HotPursuit and The Run. These games fully integrate the G27. Without the G27 a player is really missing the essence of a good racing simulator. Be sure to equip yourself with a good rig to support the wheel, the pedals and shifter since these components need a stable platform to be appreciated to their true value. The wheel FFB has a lot of torque in it and it needs to be screwed to a strong platform otherwise it will tumble off. I designed a rig out of a couple of sheets of MDF that is big enough to house the pedals floor plate, the wheel and a support for the shifter. Without that kind of supporting platform the G27 doesn't make any sense owning.
