If you have the g300 and want to upgrade, don't bother: it's exactly the same mouse with a new color scheme and name within its software. I only bought this one because my g300 broke.
Also, I use it with OSX and I'm not a gamer -- I just love having lots of buttons. To use it on OSX, though, you need to configure it on a Windows machine (or VM like Parallels) and it helps a ton to have a macro program for it on OSX. I use ControllerMate.
I never found myself using the extreme resolution of the G600 (8200 dpi); I always kept it set around 2250 with shifts of lesser values. And, as mentioned, I no longer needed 492 quadrillion buttons - just a few would do. The major pain points of the G600 were the lack of ergonomic design and the weight. I wanted my new mouse to be lighter and something I could actually rest my hand on without accommodating yet another button or odd angle.
I got everything I wanted in the G300s. While I guess it's technically a downgrade from the G600, I don't feel that way in the slightest. The mouse is light, has great resolution, slides effortlessly and has the support of the same Logitech Gaming Software. It supports the same number of modes as the G600, three, and, while it doesn't allow for the same lighting "effects" (pulse and cycle), it does allow you to change the LED color for each mode. The buttons are in the perfect spots - out of the way of primary usage areas but within quick reach.
An added bonus was that I found this mouse seemed to work better with the Logitech software than my G600 did.Read more ›
The Logitech G300s are close in size to the Intellimouse and isn't overloaded with buttons like some other mice.
The best thing, my adult hands sit comfortably on the mouse meaning I don't get cramp after using it for a few hours like some of the smaller mice or those with too many buttons that cause you to hold the mouse in an odd way just to avoid clicking on by mistake.
In my opinion, the extra buttons on the top of the mouse are much more convenient than side buttons. I can easily press all four of the buttons on top unlike my SteelSeries Sensei RAW's side buttons. The G300s is also ambidextrous which makes it great for left handers and right handers. Many people also prefer ambidextrous mice in FPS games like CounterStrike Global Offensive.
The mouse is very responsive and there are no issues with it so far. I've owned it for about two weeks now and I can safely say that there has been no problems with it. I'm still obviously adjusting to sensitivity and the new shape of the mouse in comparison to my old mouse, but this mouse is a sure beast. The buttons are clicky and tactile and there are no scroll-wheel issues, loud pitch noises, hums, or any other technical glitches with the mouse.
The mouse has some really cool features in Logitech's Gaming Software program, such as changing the color of the stripes on both sides of the mouse. The color choices are White, Yellow, Purple, Red, Teal, Green, and blue (you can turn the lights off as well). Each color is vibrant and beautiful. I love to switch to a new color each day. You can also change the DPI from as low as 250 all the way up to 2500. Polling rate starts from 125 and goes all the way up to 1000 which is excellent.Read more ›
6 months later and I'm having intermittent issues with the mouse disconnecting (I've tried it on several computers and in different USB ports) at random intervals, usually 5-10 minutes apart but sometimes going for quite a while before occurring. I don't think it's the cord because it's clear of marks and moving the ends does not affect the mouse, but I've opened a support case with logitech and am waiting on the second day now for a reply. The mouse has a 2 year warranty so hopefully it will be covered if they cannot find the solution.
Best mouse for the price. Looks good and has insane tracking (not crappy rectangular DPI scaling) - For $30 this mouse is a steal. Works great for claw gamers like myself as well.
