vs the MX518 this generally feels sturdy but of lower build quality and inferior attention to detail. The buttons don't have a consistent feel: travel distance, actuation force, damping, and tactile feedback (clickiness) are different across the buttons. In the MX518 these all feel consistent.
Button placement is the same.
Left and right buttons feel the same.
Scroll wheel button is softer and harder to press (requires a lot more force). Also sits lower and has lower travel distance.
Scroll action feels softer and dampened. Less clicky.
The small middle buttons feel of inferior quality and are hard to press (requires a lot more force). They are raised a noticeable amount vs the MX518.
The side buttons feel softer and less tactile. They don't have the distinct click of the MX518 side buttons (hard to feel the click). Travel distance is inconsistent between the 2 buttons.
Think I got the packaging intended for sale in the Chinese market. It's dual-language English/Chinese. Paid $60 in July 2017.
This is an excellent mouse that has withstood the test of time. The simplicity of the design combined with the comfortable shape and impressive performance ensures that I never go looking for a new mouse. I don't game as often as I used to [...when I was in college...] but I can appreciate an excellent mouse. Gaming is still one of my main hobbies and I have high standards when I do sit down to play.
All of the buttons are as firm and responsive as ever. The wheel still clicks and functions normally. I am always able to find the perfect level of sensitivity. The extra thumb buttons are in a good position and I map them in every single game. Every game.
This mouse got me through college and beyond. I have 400 hours in New Vegas alone. That's a lot of clicking.
$66 / 4 years = $16.50 per year, or $1.40 per month. It's a no-brainer.
It's really a bummer because this mouse would be rated five stars if it had a better cord. The in hand feel is great.

Logitech Customer Care
After about 2 years of so if I recall correctly, the mouse cord broke as I'm assuming it did for a lot of other people. I've replaced it with a cable from some thicker cheaper mouse and it's been working well ever since. But still that's a star off because cable should probably be the last thing to break.
Also the lift off distance is a bit too high for my liking, but I think that might be a preference and not necessarily a flaw with the mouse. I've remedied this by covering some of the light with electrical tape.
First of all, the hardware is excellent. After months of daily use it still looks new and feels great. The buttons take some getting used to, but for the most part are very accessible. The small thumb button is going to be hard to reach without adjusting unless you have particularly large hands, but that shouldn't be a huge concern.
Second, the software for programming the mouse is great. It's never consumed more than the most negligible of resources and it's very easy to map complicated buttons and create multiple profiles. I'm very happy with it.
I'd definitely recommend this mouse, even to non-gamers. It's well-designed, feels great in the hand, and the user-friendly software can be helpful even for casual browsing tasks or work-related ones.
