The cloth earpads aren't the most comfortable as they can get a bit scratchy/irritating, but not a big issue.
I have this weird slight bulge running down the center of my head, so headphones with a single-piece head cushioning give me a headache, but this was easily resolved with some tape strapped around the center of the head band.
Other than that, the headset has been decent in terms of overall comfort, and I like that over ear headsets don't press my ears against my glasses, which was an issue with a previous pair of on ear headphones (JVC HA S500) I've owned.
When I first reviewed this headset I felt that it sounded cheap compared to the JVCs, and it still doesn't feel as precise or clear of a sound, but its not a bad experience and definitely won't impair any gaming, movie watching, or normal music.
About 15 days ago the plastic part holding the drivers to the headband cracked near the screws, causing the ears to slip off the headphone and dangle from the internal wires, and I had to repair it with superglue, and so far there aren't any issues and my headset still retains full functionality
The headset has a switch for mic and a slider for volume, and the mic is definitely not something you wanna use if recording audio is your thing, however it is legible and functional for basic communication.
The virtual 7.1 surround sound supposedly comes from the usb dongle which could account for the $35 difference between this and the G230 at the time of purchase, and I have no idea how much of the surround sound I've experienced comes from the soundcard, and how much is just from the game's sound design. I use the headphone on the dongle exclusively, and its definitely not a bad solution if you don't have working jacks (which I do), without any noise that you get with some bad quality usb sound cards.
In my previous computer I had an uneasy process obtaining the drivers (the 32bit drivers are incompatible with my 64bit win7 home premium, while when selecting 64bit drivers the website would automatically redirect me to some kind of product registration page, I had to manually change the download link from xxxxxxx.xxxxxx/xxxxxx/xxxxxxx32xx.exe to xxxxxx.xxxxxxx/xxxxxxx/xxxxxxx64xx.exe in order to download the drivers).
After installing the drivers, I thought the headset would show as 5.1 or 7.1 in the windows control panel. Why? Because I thought the usb dongle would take the 7.1 channels first and then process it into virtual 7.1, however nope it only shows up in control panel as "stereo" - with to be fair an option to "enable surround" in the Effects setting. I'm not sure how enabling surround allows the driver to work with games. Alas, I'm not even sure the drivers I installed or the usb dongle is even doing anything, the only obviously 3D content I've experienced so far are the pre-processed binaural stuff (eg. virtual barbershop) that doesn't require specialized equipment in the first place, I also have conflicting information regarding how a game such as arma handles 3d sound -specifically, does it output into the dongle for processing? With the aforementioned lack of virtual multi-channel output, I've been unable to get 5.1 movies working either and I've never seen the "logitech gaming software" say anything other than "surround sound content has not yet been detected", even clicking on "experience surround sound", there isn't any obvious separation in the demonstration track, but that may just be my ears.
There is 3D- somewhat (again, not sure if the dongle, headset or the logitech software is contributing in any meaningful way - my acer laptop has some kind of dolby sound with 3D headphone output, and so does VLC player which has an option to "enable virtual surround").
Maybe its just my ears, but in testing the 3D sound using an article on The Verge "Surrounded by sound: how 3D audio hacks your brain" as well as lobbing grenades in Arma 3, I've never been able to get something to sound like its coming from in front of me. Sounds can either come from behind, left, right, or around my head, but never ahead, well I guess in gaming you don't really need to hear it if you can already see it.
I left a 2 star review when I initially tested the headset, but I would say the headset has grown on me and been fairly reliable hence the increased stars. I would still question the value of the G430 compared to the G230 (which is still $20 cheaper as of this update and apparently identical except for the supposed lack of dolby surround (which you can only get from the dongle)), although other reviewers do notice the difference and I'm in no position to disagree.
I would like to just state up front now though, that if you need to use the microphone on this headset for anything outside of voice chat in games or skype with your friends, look elsewhere, or consider buying a standalone mic. The mic on this headset is understandable, but the quality is terrible, and it will randomly cut your voice off mid sentence due to badly designed background noise removal that you can't turn off.
But, on with my review of this headset. I decided to upgrade from my aging Turtle Beach x32's (Yes, I know that headset is made for the Xbox, but they sell a pc adapter cable, and it worked great for me.) and decided to go with surround sound this time. I bought this headset mostly because it is the only blue headset I have ever seen, and it matches my all blue pc build.
Surround Sound Quality: 5/5
I have tried out Titanfall, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty Ghosts, and I do definitely feel like I have an advantage over other players. Think of it this way, you are sitting in a small room with two doors. With a stereo headset, you can hear footsteps, and you know somebody is coming, but you don't know which door they will walk through and have a higher chance of dying. With this headset however, in that same situation, you know which direction the footsteps are coming from, and you have a much higher chance of not dying due to that extra bit of knowledge you wouldn't get with a regular headset. The surround quality in this headset is better than my 5.1 surround sound setup in our media room, so this definitely earns a 5/5 in this category.
Sound Quality: 4/5
I am rating the overall sound quality of this headset a 4/5 for one reason. The virtual surround sound in this headset tries to make all sounds "Surround" your head, and in doing so, it makes anything that isn't a game, or music seem like it's being played in a big stone room with all the sound echoing off of the virtual walls the headset seems to create. You do get used to this effect quickly, and I now kind of like the effect, it makes things seem a bit more real I guess, but I'm just throwing this out there for anybody who might care to know about that.
One last thing for this category, I have seen too many people online complaining about the headset glitching out whenever you have something that is surround sound and something in stereo playing at the same time. (it will rapidly swap between stereo and surround sound and produce a lot of static.) I have found a way to fix this. (This is for windows vista and 7.) You simply open your control panel in windows, go to Hardware and Sound, click on the button that says manage audio devices, and in the playback tab, find something labeled with Logitech G430 Gaming Headset, click on it, and then click properties. It should open up a new window, with the tabs General, Levels, Enhancements and Advanced. Go to Enhancements and find the one in the list labeled "Speaker Fill" check the box next to it and click apply. Basically, what that did was tell your computer to turn all stereo sound into surround sound, and that prevents the scenario where the headset could glitch out.
Mic Quality: 2/5
I am giving this a 2/5 for the reasons I told you about above, the mic is understandable, but does not have good quality. If you simply plan to use it for skype calling with your friends, maybe some in game chat, it will be absolutely fine for you then, but, since I'm a youtuber, I have much higher standards for my mic quality. If you plan to use the mic for business, recording yourself singing, recording videos for youtube, or anything where you need to sound good, consider buying a blue snowball mic, or something comparable to it.
Final thoughts:
So, this headset is overall a good headset for the price, good sound quality, good surround sound emulation, and ok mic quality. I personally have a Blue Snowball microphone, so the mic being not so great on the headset is no big deal for me, but it might be for other people.
I hope that this review has helped you to see the ups and downs of this headset, and help you to decide if it's worth your money!

Setup of this headphones is quite tricky to be honest, you need to ensure that the software and respective drivers are installed properly to ensure smooth working of these headphones and to get proper surround sound. I've discussed this at the end of this review.
Coming to the review:
1. Build: It is nice taking into consideration the price. Fiber bodied, but metallic wherever necessary(headband etc.). They won't break with light mishandles that is for sure!
2. Sound: Surround sound is amazing, bass especially is superb, it feels like you are sitting in a movie theatre while watching a surround film. Remember you need to download 5.1 or 7.1 surround movies, only surround headphones won't make a difference. For gamers, this is gold, commands are hissed into your ears! Explosions are impressive, it has good control over volume normalization. For listening to songs, it is recommended to avoid the use of given adapter and plug headphones directly into the 3.5 mm jack as songs are stereo only, or else you can turn-off the surround from software.
3. Compatibility: I use Windows 7 x64, they are compatible with it, according to Logitech, they should work on all platforms also. Surround sound isn't available on Android or any other smartphone, however you can use them directly with 3.5 mm jack.
4. Comfort: The ear padding seems rough and the headband cushion seems hard but they get adjusted once you start using them continuously. Many times I forgot I was actually wearing them.
5. Microphone: Stereo, yeah! But only when you plug it directly into the jack and not through the adapter. Overall its good, for the price! But could've been better
Coming to the cons:
VOLUME IS LOW!: This is a big problem faced by many of my fellow consumers here, but I've got a solution for that(not boosting!), discussed at end!
Wire is too long: Yeah, troubles a bit, but, acceptable for me at least!
CONTINUOUS HISSING: Turn off the microphone from the software, hissing will stop! ;)
Very bulky: Yeah they are, especially for 'former' bullet earphone users, do not buy it if you plan it to port from time to time, please!
***
Installation guidelines:
1. Windows 7 users, ensure you have the Windows Update KB3033929 installed. (*important*)
2. Download Logitech Gaming Software, latest version.
3. Plug the headphones with adapter.
4. Turn surround ON, volume to full and microphone muted to stop that hissing.
5. Download surround content to test.
6. Go to Sound in Control Panel and somewhere there make these headphones Default Audio Output device.
Low Volume issues fixed:
The latest update fixes volume issues(22nd Feb 2016 or later, check their site)!
Final Consensus: Only low budget, surround lovers may buy these, they are worth the money! If you have 10k, go for Razer Kracken Pro. If you have more, buy *for real* surround sound system, nothing beats that.
Rating: 4.5/5 rounded to 5/5 :)
Edit(13th November 2016): Hey guys its almost an year using these headphones and they're still working great, no damages nothing! With the LGS October 4 update v8.88 these headphones support DTS Headphone:X audio too along with the conventional Dolby surround and now we have a choice for Dolby and DTS movies separately. I have not yet regretted my decision for buying these headphones! :) Revised rating: 5/5
Edit(29th July 2018): Almost 2 and a half years now and its still going great! I have started experiencing issues with the volume rocker though, so I recommend newer users to avoid its use and fix it at one level and use the computer to adjust volume. One more thing, for low volume people, use FX Sound Enhancer to boost the volume without lessening the quality, for details on how to set it up, contact me.

As for comfort, I find it bothers me to wear it for extended periods. I honestly think the circular shapes for headsets/ headphones are better for me since this one and similar shapes make my ears hurt at the antitragus/ tragus (search that up if you don't know what it means). This is where the star deductions happened. I tried to align the headset so that the ear pads follow the contour of my ears, but that resulted in the headband sitting pretty much at the back of my head. This ultimately made the headset continually slide off my head so I couldn't wear them like this. It might just be me though since both my friends who own this headset do not have this problem.
Comfort aside, I like that they made it with the padded cups and headband. It feels nice to the touch and the braided cable is a nice addition. The in-line switch is a bit far from the headset, but you can always tie it up so that it is closer, so not really something I'd deduct stars for.
Also, the headset has surround sound (which i don't use) and you can set up monitoring (sort of) so that you can ever so slightly hear yourself talking into the microphone which is a nice feature that I appreciate.
Overall, I think the G430 headset is alright. I'd argue that if you see it on sale, it may be worth buying.
Pros:
- Great sound quality
- Extremely comfortable
- Great adjustable size, even fits my unusually large head no problem
- Extremely clear mic quality. I would have no problem recording with these.
- They seem to go on sale regularly. If you can get them for less than $80 you will probably not find a better deal anywhere else. I'd compare their overall performance to headphones twice that price.
- As said above, durable. These will stand up to quite a bit of heavy duty use.
- these come with a usb jack which accepts both the mic and headphone portion, which is vital for my setup because my laptop's mic port doesn't seem to work properly.
There's a few minor structural concerns that I want to make sure are addressed. If you have any reason to suspect you'll be using these regularly I strongly recommend taping over these to provide structural stability for the plastic which is a bit weak in these areas, in order to save further heartache down the line.
1 - The twist point that allows the earmuffs to turn laterally around and conform to your ear. Unfortuantely, this is the weakest point in the design and likely to give out first.
2 - The swivel point that allows the headphones to be positioned vertically towards or away from the top/bottom of your head. These are also a bit weak and have a tendency to slip.
3 - The bridge that holds point 2 and attaches it to the main body of the headset. This is just a point of precaution. It seems as if these only receive extra stress after point 2 has already gone; however, it is the thinnest piece of structural plastic on the entire headset, so imho better safe than sorry.
Cons of doing this:
- looks ugly as sin
- all of these pivot points are there to provide comfort and functionality and by taping over them you'll be reducing that somewhat. however, considering these headphones will likely stand the test of time if well taken care of, I feel it's worth it.

They've served me pretty well. Sound is about the same as the G230's (I don't care for the virtual surround sound), they feel the same, but they aren't the same. Quality is definitely worse on the G430's. Only 9 months of having them, and one of the earpieces is hanging by the cord. The hinge with plastic surrounded by four screws has fractured off, and the other side is cracked. I haven't dropped them, I haven't mishandled them, they just broke.
Being less three years old (less than a year even), I contacted Logitech support to start a warranty claim. Waiting for three days for a response by email, getting a copy/paste response (for troubleshooting, LOL), finally led me to contact online support. After waiting for 45 minutes in a queue, I finally spoke with a rep. Needless to say they will be replacing the headset, but with the same G430's. It's unfortunate that with all of the negative reviews with the same issue, they still sell this headset. I also asked if I could pay the difference for the G433's (which by the looks of it is an upgraded G430 with a better hinge), and that's not an option. I guess we'll see how this new pair holds up.
Would not recommend. Look elsewhere for a quality headset (Steelseries, HyperX, Corsair, even Razer).
>What will you get is Headset / USB Adapter / 1 guide, 1 warranty card.
>Logitech G430 has Dolby Atmos and DTS. (DTS sounds better). Dolby/dts is inbuilt in Headset the adapter just makes the pc recognize it and add some more features to it.
>Can not record your own voice with pure clarity (if your house has an earthing issue ) as there will be hissing sound using USB adapter.
I cannot use the 2 jacks directly as I have a laptop with one slot.
> Playing PUBG was disappointing with this headset as the footsteps/ the background feel is low at least 40% less.
Meaning even when all is on 100% it's still low for this game. Even when you want to increase more of the sound you cannot.
> The mic is noise cancellation, yes but a little hissing sound comes as I am using the company USB adapter. Although I guess your friends can hear you nice and clear.
Just mentioning the cons:
>Hissing mike sound. (earthing)
> PUBG overall exp 2.5 out of 5 points. (Tencent Gaming buddy not that much support for surround sound)
> Body is not so durable can break if stretched wrongly. Plastic body with just 1 Aluminium ring inside the plastic body. Not a good idea.
Can buy these if your range is around this or get a better one.
Thank you.
