Unfortunately, this one went bad after 3ish years (2 years no use in my closet due to lack of space) with a hardware malfunction. Lights stopped working, all G key related functions stopped working, only basic keyboard worked. Customer support told me I needed to send it in to be repaired because there was a hardware malfunction that was well known in the G19s keyboards; however, there was never a recall, and no warranty extension on faulty keyboards. VERY disappointed in this Logitech product. While this interaction has nothing to do with my Logitech speakers, I want to throw my current ones out because they are Logitech, and go to anything else... swapmeet speakers! All seriousness, I am done sticking with Logitech only for keyboard/speakers/mice/headsets. Also, I have the G930 wireless headset... my second replaced set, and it already needs to be replaced after a few months (like the last pair)
I do have a couple gripes. My "W" key doesn't like to stay pressed if I let off slightly. This leaves me standing still in BF4, looking dumb. A quick repress remedies it. My spacebar is a bit choosey on smoothly operating when using my right thumb to press it. Perhaps some more break-in time will loosen it up. My volume barrel has a "resistant" spot, almost as if it's not a complete cylinder. It has gotten slightly better over time, though. The keyboard backlighting colors are nice and include so many more color options than I'm used to. I stick with a standard blue 90% of the time, though. The blue surround on this keyboard does stay rather fingerprint-resistant. I like this. It also doesn't appear blue in person, more of a black with blue metallic effect.
In the end, even with the handful of issues I've had, I like this keyboard. I do feel it should be sold at the $80 price range, and I'm not a huge fan of the power cable needing to be so close to my PC's usb inputs, but I'll survive.
I didn't have the "reconnect of death" that some users have been reporting.
It doesn't take much time at all to setup or get initialized. It does require an external power source via a wall outlet to run the display. The display looks great and I tested most of the built in apps and they functioned properly. The backlit keys worked great and the colors were visibly different when you adjust them. The keyboard feels very solid and I never had any issues with it slipping or sliding. It is a bit wide so you'll want to ensure you have enough desk space for it and your mouse.
There were two things that I didn't particularly like. The first was that I couldn't find any other apps for the screen. I checked all over the Logitech site and Google and nothing popped out saying "hey here are some new custom apps for your Logitech G19S!" There probably are some but what bothers me is that it takes over an hour of looking to find anything fruitful, which is ridiculous.
The biggest problem I had was the keys. I returned this keyboard for this very reason. While playing an MMO and running with the W key I had to physically press the key all the way down to keep my character continually moving forward. I had the same issue with the D and Q keys. I thought it may take a week or so to break it in, but it was still very relentless on keeping those keys smashed down to ensure my character moved forward, strafe left (yes I'm a keyboard turner), and turn right.
I've been using a Logitech DiNovo Edge for the past 3 years and that thing is amazing...not so much built for gaming by any means but it's simple to operate and responds wonderfully to the touch. The G19S was simply too difficult to get used to and I didn't see any sensetivity settings to adjust key pressing...thus I returned it.
In conclusion...this may have just been the keyboard I received that has this problem, but that problem on top of the nearly $200 price tag was enough for me to return to my DiNovo Edge. Just as a side note I'm not trying to slam Logitech here because almost everything peripheral I have for my computer is a Logitech and I love them all...except for this thing.
Top reviews from other countries
- Backlit keys with selectable colour
- Lots of easy to use macro keys
- Profiles for games or applications can be changed easily on the fly from the LCD
- Good selection of apps that support the LCD, displays relevant information when you need it
- Good layout
Cons
- Logitech gaming software doesn't work after resuming from sleep on Windows 8.1 so the screen stops working until I reset the computer.
- For it's price it would be nice if Logitech had built it with silent mechanical switches
- The d pad and menu buttons for the LCD are not responsive enough, you often have to press them several times before anything happens.
Overall this is a pretty awesome keyboard and it was a great deal on Amazon which made it an easy decision when I broke my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. It seems like mechanical switches should be a part of Logitech's flagship keyboard, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me because I'm sick of having people complain to me about how loud my keyboard is. I have trouble with the Logitech software after resuming from sleep on Windows 8.1, the application won't open and the LCD is on but blank, and the only thing that seems to make it work properly again is to restart the computer.
First the display screen is great as its adjustable and you can brighten it or dim it.
2nd the keys are back lit and you can choose multiple colors and they are quiet keys so next to no noise while typing.
3rd the keyboard is well built and stays where you place it next to no sliding.
4th the software is great and packed with tons of settings you can adjust.
All around it is worthy of the Logitech name and the price.
I had my G15 for 10 years so to me spending this amount of money wasn't an issue considering how long my G15 lasted to me. And the only issue that made me upgrade is because my cat chewed up my wires.
I really love the look of this keyboard. The fact that we can customize the keyboard backlight is pretty nice too.
The LCD Screen is a little overkill to me... You can actually play Youtube videos on it, even though i didn't see the use for it I found that pretty cool, but not a necessity.
And of course, this LCD screen needs his own power outlet... which is something to take into consideration if you're limited on your powerbar.
Keys feel really soft and silent, good thing if you game a lot with voice chat on. (I hate people with mechanical keyboard while i'm on skype with them, and I don't get the big hype around mechanical keyboards).
I'm really happy with this keyboard and probably won't be looking for anything else for another 10 years.
Good job Logitech!
