Okay, semi expert here. This is my fourth Harmony universal remote in about ten years. Perhaps that leads to conclusions about issues of longevity? I'm a little torn on that. Yes, they do get daily work, but a little more in the build quality, especially for the steep price, seems warranted. Battery life on the previous models was also not good - I am talking about rechargeable models.
Sadly, nobody makes as usable as a remote as Logitech/Harmony. If I am wrong please tell me in the comments - I am willing to switch!
While easy to use, easy to set up is not the same thing. If you are tech savvy, it is not too difficult and the biggest challenge is first, getting all your correct model numbers for all your gear, second, knowing enough about how you have all this set up in terms of both audio and video inputs and outputs. Advice, write it down and keep it on file. That is a fair amount of work and takes some knowledge. Unlike my last model, the default button setup for this and my different devices was a bit off. I had to "customize" button settings for my cable box (FIOS) to properly use the Favorites guide and a few other things including On Demand - that's right, no default button set up for On Demand. In actual use my wife was able to start using it right away, but there are some quibbles here and there on having this be the only remote we need. Back to cable, but some often used functions, like search, are more cumbersome with this than the FIOS remote. We can live with it and let that stay in a drawer, but again, for $250 I think we can all demand a bit more thoughtfulness and user testing. Not to be AV elitist, but I don't think your average person with an average set up is going to shell out $250 for a remote. We want ease of use, but also versatility. FYI, I am running this with a HD TV, audio video receiver and a 5.1 surround setup, FIOS cable box, Roku 4, blueray DVD player and (for old family stuff I am working to convert) an actual VHS VCR!
P.S. Swipe gesture thing is a gimmick and not very useful - volume buttons are easier to use. Would have much rather had the effort of this go into lower cost or functionality. Form factor/ergonomics is not the best either. Volume, channel, guide - highly used buttons not in a natural position for the hand. Hire a real Human Factors person please!

Any of you that had the Harmony One will be disappointed with this one, a mess of placement for the buttons and the elimination of some control make this remote an insult to the word Ultimate. So far the only thing I can find in the positive is the programming, the older system was good and the new one is easy to use. Yes I'm aware of the price difference but to go from a Bentley to a Pinto is much more than I expected.
Pros.
It's much smaller than the Harmony one, some may find that handy, I find it harder to use since everything has been squeezed together to fit.
It's easy to program, do it once and everything works fine.
Favorites is a nice touch, program in your favorites and it's only one touch away from your favorite channel.
Cons
Everything is different on this one, placement of buttons appears to be a mix of poor design to just not caring about the customer.
30 second jump is almost unavailable, those used to hitting the fast forward several times to jump 3 or more minutes will find this one almost useless, you have to hold it down for every jump till it vibrates, push it softly and you get fast forward whether you want it or not.
10 second jump back is the same disaster as forward, press firmly till it vibrates and keep repeating till you get to where you want to be.
Touch sensitivity seems to be a bit too much, brush your finger across it when you pick it up and it changes channels on you, if you have kids around you have to put it in touch screen mode to be able to watch without it being changed every few minutes.
Scrolling thru favorites can be a problem, if you don't do it very lightly, you end up with some channel you've never heard of.
For some reason this one has to be pointed directly at the TV to work, my old Harmony One seemed to work no matter where I aimed it, have it at an slight angle and only half your stuff comes on.
Pause and Play being the same button that you will often hit the wrong one if you have not so nimble fingers, same with fast forward and stop, be off a tiny bit and you end up stopping a program you are watching and only wanted to jump forward.
The improved hump doesn't really help, maybe when you use the top buttons but when you want to use the bottom ones you find you need two hands just to operate them.
Many of you that have never used Harmony products may not find this many problems, those of us that have used them for many years (my fifth one) may have a different perspective of this remote, I was disappointed with it the moment I used it, it does what they claim but to me it's clunky and just poorly designed, since I feel that going from a Harmony One down to this one is a giant step backwards for a product that's labeled Ultimate.

I had some difficulty setting it up at first. Come to find out, the remote was just in the process of working. It just took so long (no spinning icon) I thought it just stuck, and not working because I didn’t get a hub. The Harmony app won’t work for me because it wants a hub. I Left it, came back, tried it again and it worked fine. Just give it time to set up. I’m 68 yrs old, if I can do it, you can. I don’t have a TV network (cable/satellite), I only use DVD player, Prime and Youtube along with a sound bar. It really is easy to figure out once you understand how it works.

I really wanted to like this remote
Reviewed in Canada on June 6, 2018Verified Purchase
I really wanted to like this remote. I connected to everything really easily. The biggest plus was having a central remote for my cable and all other features of my Android TV, which otherwise required 2 separate remotes. Everything connected easily and the set up was pretty seamless, however it only worked with IR based tech. I wish this remote would also allow WiFI-based connections. I think it would be more useful if it did.
I ended up returning it for 2 main reasons:
1) The placement of the screen/buttons made it really awkward to use. The play/pause buttons are the ones I use most, and they're not very conveniently placed at all. I kept accidentally hitting the touch screen when trying to use them, which would often start another channel or process.
2) There is a delay. With a remote I expect a fairly instantaneous response. However it took long enough that there was a noticeable pause between clicking the button and action taking place, so I was constantly wondering if I hit the right button, which was an annoyance. The whole point of a remote is to make changing the channel and settings more convenient, not complicate it.

Exceptional Value
Reviewed in Canada on March 29, 2018Verified Purchase
Exceptional quality and well designed. Setup was very easy and once you link up and open your Harmony account and provide your device information, everything you need is automatically downloaded for you. Not only can you operate all the functions of your device remote, you can also adjust the settings as well. I love the fact that there are no batteries to replace and the charging stand always keeps the remote fully charged. It does take some time getting used to all the swiping actions and functions and I do recommend you read and familiarize yourself with the remote first. I do find the keys a bit small and reaction time when turning on the unit a bit slow. but these really are the only negatives I have. Is the high cost justified? You do get what you pay for and here you get an awful lot for your money! I would definitely recommend the Harmony Ultimate One without hesitation. Delivery was quick and the backup and support is second to none. It truly does replace all your remotes and thus far works flawlessly.

Loses programming, too sensitive
Reviewed in Canada on November 25, 2019Verified Purchase
I had a previous model of Harmony remote and had no end of problems with it losing its programming and having to reprogram it on the fly while trying to watch TV. Eventually six months ago I got fed up and bought this more advanced (seemingly) model. At first it worked great and I liked the touch screen with programmable favourite channels. However, the touch feature is too sensitive. Just picking up the remote and handling it without touching the screen or buttons causes it to go crazy and send random, invalid signals to the TV. Then it's extremely hard to "unscrew" what the remote screwed up.
Another problem is that the basic buttons like "volume" suddenly lose their programming and stop working. A couple of nights ago I suddenly lost the ability to use the volume button and had to connect the remote to my laptop (again) and reprogram it. It took over an hour because the "up" and "down" parts of the button are separate and it kept not saving my changes.
Finally, this is a woefully obsolete (2014) model. It's not even listed on Logitech's site, so don't expect any support from them when it acts up. Logitech wants you to spend $2-300+ on their "hub" models instead. I bought a Fire TV stick with voice control and overall, Amazon's voice control products are both superior to and far cheaper than the Logitech hub versions. The Amazon dot is on a deep discount today, so I'm off to order one of those and eventually get the Amazon TV voice controller when it becomes available in 2 weeks. No more buttons, touch screens or programming and reprogramming while watching TV.

Keeps getting out of sync
Reviewed in Canada on August 8, 2019Verified Purchase
With no updates ever coming out for the remote, I would suggest not getting. When you program it, it gets out of sync very soon after initial use.
When I first got it, it worked great. Then it stopped completing the programmed tasks. Continuously fail to turn a device on, or change inputs. Leaving you to almost always having to manually fixing the issue or waiting for the help function to fix each problem one at a time (meaning having to select Help for each issue). Example is that it failed to turn on the TV, so Help turns it on, but doesn’t bother to set the input. So you have to click Help again.
The next thing is that PVRs don’t all match their DB, so it selects one it thinks is the best. But here’s the rub. The commands don’t match and there are features that you can’t use on the remote buttons. You need to open the device from the devices selection screen and choose your option from the list. Whereas you have a physical button that “should” do it. In this case I’m talking about recordings mapping to the DVR button.
Be forewarned.

Very easy to set up and use
Reviewed in Canada on December 15, 2018Verified Purchase
Logitech continues to innovate with this remote control. Their comprehensive database of thousands of audio and video components, combined with the intuitive set-up interface / application, means that the remote control can be configured to operate, all by itself, my somewhat complex A/V system that includes a pre-amp and amplifier, DVD player, CD player, Apple TV, cable TV PVR, and TV. I am very pleased with the way the commands, buttons, and touch screen can be customized, but since most of the default settings that Logitech provides are just right, the available customization is not so much a necessity but a luxury. This remote works very well, and I highly recommend it.
