Prior to buying this headset in May of 2012, I had owned a couple pair of Plantronics that didn't even compare to this headset.
As a casual PC gamer at the time -- playing a couple hours a week between work and raising my daughter -- this headset held up. It was used, abused and loved for 5 years. The earphone coverings started to wear off after year 3 when my use picked up a little more as I became more of a competitive gamer, but I continued to use them for another 2 years with no issues.
The mic quality sufficed for in-game communications at the time. These really aren't for noise cancellation, so don't expect any when using them.
What actually caused me to put this headset to the grave after 5 loyal years was my then 6 month old son decided to literally chew the mic right off the headset.

Nowadays, there are much better options for the price point when it comes to headsets. But that won't cause me to lower my rating of this headset as it was a staple in my life for 5 years like a hardy companion that I reluctantly had to let go.
