Move your router! I have a pretty heavy-duty gaming router that usually sits on or around my desk, and after hours of uninstalling/re-installing drivers to try to resolve connectivity issues I realized that the issue was with my router's 2.4Ghz signal interfering with the G903's. Before you return this thing, try giving your mouse a bit more space between it and the router.
My previous mouse was the Pro MLG edition of the SteelSeries Sensei mouse which I purchased on sale for $95.99 in Jan-2013. It's a corded mouse and I used it for almost 5 years until its buttons began to wear out. It has seen a lot of use. I'm ambidextrous and use my left hand for the mouse most of the time because of an injury to my right wrist many years ago. My hands are large. I chose the Logitech G903 LightSpeed mouse to replace the aging Sensei because I wanted a wireless mouse and the G903 provides a good solution for charging the battery. I purchased my G903 in Nov-2017 direct from Amazon on sale for $119.99 plus tax (its suggested retail price is $149.99). I also purchased the Logitech PowerPlay charging mousepad for $99.99 plus tax from Amazon so I can keep the G903 battery charged wirelessly.
•– Ambidextrous design with side buttons that can be removed if undesired.
•– Very accurate (PMW3366 sensor) and very smooth movement (I'm using a "hard" mouse pad).
•– No noticeable lag. It responds like a fast corded mouse.
•– DPI sensitivity adjustments can be quickly made on the fly (200 to 12000 dpi).
•– Wide range of polling rates (125 to 1000 per second).
•– Mechanical free-wheeling mode for the roller button.
•– Up to five user configurations can be stored in the mouse memory.
•– The mouse fits comfortably in my large hand.
•– The side buttons are mounted high enough that I rarely hit them by mistake (I have all four active).
•– Nice weight (not too light, not too heavy). I did not feel the need to use the optional 10 gram weight.
•– RGB lighting. The mouse lighting can be synced with the PowerPlay mousepad lighting.
•– Wireless communication (2.4 GHz).
•– Wireless charging (requires optional PowerPlay mousepad).
•– All buttons on the mouse click VERY LOUDLY. This is one of the loudest mice I have ever used!!!
•– Ugly appearance. It looks like Batman designed it. The ribbed gaps of the primary buttons look horrible.
•– The rechargeable Li-po battery lasts only 24-32 hours under continuous use, depending on how the mouse is configured.
•– The rechargeable Li-po battery is not designed to be replaced by the user and Logitech does NOT sell replacements.
•– The only RGB illumination of consequence is the "G" logo. Why doesn't each button have a soft glow of light around it?
•– The Logitech software offers zero control over the mouse physics (the user cannot alter acceleration curves, etc).
•– The length of the mouse is too long for users with small hands. And the side buttons could be farther forward.
•– The cost for wireless charging is too high: $149.99 for the mouse plus $99.99 for the PowerPlay charging mousepad.
•– If wireless charging is desired, the required PowerPlay mousepad is difficult to find because it's been in short supply.
•– The PowerPlay mousepad comes in only one size and it is too large for my work area (13.5 x 11 inches plus the receiver module).
•– The setup instructions say to keep the wireless receiver at least 6.56 feet (2 meters) away from wireless routers.
At the time of my purchase, the G903 was the only ambidextrous, high-quality mouse that had both wireless communication and wireless charging. However, the wireless charging is an optional feature and you must purchase a separate PowerPlay mousepad from Logitech. This mousepad includes a PowerCore module that you insert into the mouse (where the optional 10-gram weight goes). This PowerCore is necessary for the mouse to utilize the unique magnetic resonance charging system of the PowerPlay mousepad. This is not the inductive wireless charging system used by cellphones and other Qi-compatible or PMA-compatible devices. Logitech's magnetic resonance system is different and the G903 and G703 Logitech mice will only work with it. Nor can you charge your cellphone or any Qi or PMA devices with the PowerPlay mousepad. Even though I was able to get my G903 on sale for $119.99, the total cost with the $99.99 PowerPlay mousepad was $219.98. That's a lot!
But, I'm glad that we finally have a mouse that has these features because it means that you never have to plug a charging cable into the mouse and therefore the 24-32 hour runtime of the rechargeable battery is no longer a problem or annoyance. The PowerPlay mousepad charges the mouse while you use it so the battery never runs down. Plus, it regulates the charge level in order to keep the battery healthy and prolong its lifespan. Wireless charging is huge in my book because plugging and unplugging a USB cable into the mouse for charging is the the weakest part of the design! Those tiny USB jacks are not designed to handle such frequent use and they wear out quickly.
The PowerPlay mousepad includes a built-in receiver module to wirelessly communicate with the mouse (it sticks off the side of the mousepad) and you plug it into your computer via the supplied USB cable. When using the PowerPlay mousepad, you do not use the receiver that came with the mouse. So you only need one USB port and, since the mousepad's receiver is always present next to the mouse, the communication is excellent and I haven't had any problems even though my wireless router is located only 3.25 feet (0.99 meters) away.
The first time I plugged the receiver of the PowerPlay mousepad into my computer's USB port and turned on the G903 mouse, the mouse quickly paired to the receiver and began to work. (I never used the receiver that came with the mouse since I had the PowerPlay mousepad with its built-in wireless receiver. You should never use both receivers at the same time.) No special Windows drivers or software are required. However, if you want to control the unique features of the mouse and PowerPlay mousepad, then you need to download and install the Logitech Gaming Software (LGS). I'm running it under Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) and it seems to work well and is stable.
Overall, I think the benefits of the G903 outweigh its deficits so I'm awarding it four out of five stars. In spite of my aversion to its noisy buttons and its ugly appearance, it is very functional and having wireless charging is fantastic. I realize that I may be in the minority for not liking its appearance---my family thinks it has a "cool high-tech" look---but I am surprised that the RGB lighting effects are so limited. I expected more---like having a soft glow around the buttons to help you see them in the dark.
I also understand that there are already third-party sources for replacement batteries should you need one. But you may damage the mouse feet when you remove them to access the chassis screws. Fortunately, Logitech sells spare feet for just $4.00.
How am I using my G903? Answer: I'm using it for graphic design and media creation using the Adobe Master Collection (I seem to live and breath Photoshop and Illustrator). Many of us in the graphic arts field turn to the gaming industry for input devices because that's where the best gear is found. I'm using a 40-inch calibrated 4K UHD monitor as my primary display and an 18.4-inch FHD monitor as a secondary display for tool palettes. So my Windows desktop is huge. I have the DPI sensitivity set to 1600 dpi most of the time in order to quickly zip around my 4K desktop. But I'll bump the sensitivity down to 800 or 400 dpi as needed when I'm working on details. I'm using a report (polling) rate of 500 per second because I don't notice a significant benefit to going any faster and 500 per second draws less current from the battery than 1000 per second.
Note: At the time of this writing, Logitech offers only one other mouse that has wireless charging. It is the G703 and it requires the same PowerPlay mousepad as the G903. Presumably future models will as well. The G703 is cheaper ($99.99) but, unfortunately, it is not ambidextrous---it is designed for right-handed use only.
The Bottom Line -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
The G903 is a high-quality mouse that should last for years. It has a combination of features that cannot be found anywhere else---yet. In several important ways, it's the best ambidextrous wireless mouse on the market. But it's expensive---especially if you want to use the optional wireless charging feature. And it may be too long for users with small hands. So I recommend finding one and trying it to see how it feels in your hand before you buy. The older G900 model is virtually identical except it doesn't support wireless charging. If you can't find a G903, test a G900 because it will feel the same.
Design- Really well built, the design is to my fancy. The addition of RGB LEDs is a nice touch even though its not very noticeable, when in use. The shape of the mouse is Ambidextrous making it hard to get used to if you're coming from right handed mice. Its not uncomfortable, and it was easy for me to get used to.( this could also be that my first gaming mouse was also ambidextrous Razer Taipan)
Battery Life- Compared to my previous mouse which lasted about 2 days, this is way way better. I've still yet to fully deplete the battery.
Performance- Wow, I can actually feel the difference in the sensor. It feels more fluid and very responsive, i'd say it feels like a wired mouse. I think it has slightly improved my aim in Overwatch.
The only complaint I have as of now would be the price. It is a very expensive mouse compared to the others i've used, but I would say that its worth it specially if you get it on sale.
The battery life is also impressive. I don't use the RGB on the palm rest, so with that config I can get 2 full days usage on this thing before I have to recharge. The charge time is quick, and it lasts for 2 days.
The software works good, the battery is good, the tracking is good, the comfort is good, the scroll wheel is good. I just can't find anything wrong with this product, so 5 stars it is.
