I especially loved the plug and play ease of the touchpad option and the touchpad is super easy to use. You can point, scroll and swipe with ease by using one,two or three fingers on the large, 5 inch touchpad. This lapdesk comes with 4 AAA Duracell batteries and Logitech's website states that you'll only have to change the batteries twice a year. Just remember to pull out the protective battery tab, turn it on and make sure that the tray is COMPLETELY pulled out and opened fully. The green battery light to the left of the touchpad is not meant to stay lit. This is the normal behavior of the N600 Touch Lapdesk. When you fully extend the touchpad, or turn it on, or replace the batteries, the light will come on for a few seconds. This indicates that the battery has enough charge for the device to work. The light will go off again after a few seconds to conserve battery power. You can also customize the N600 touchpad by using Logitech SetPoint software. All of the information is at [...]
I have a soft bottomed lapdesk that I use on the couch or in bed and I have a rolling, wooden adjustable laptop desk in the computer room. I have used this product by itself and on top of both of my other products and it works great. There is a place inside the battery compartment to store the USB and that is a great feature also since I will be using this product for travel.
The lap desk does feel very comfortable on my lap. It does seem to have heat shielding and a no skip surface. The computer is not sliding at all and the lapdesk seems to be gently gripping my pants to hold its place. All in all it feels very firm and stable for use.
There is a tiny wireless USB interface that plus into the notebook computer and allows you to use the built in touch pad which slides out the right side (this might be a restriction if you want to use the touch pad with your left hand, the design is right hand use biased). The touch pad that pops out has space to rest your wrist, which is great and is about 3 times the size of the built in touch pad on my notebook (which is a little less than twice as large as the touch pads on the netbooks). One warning, the USB interface was so tiny that I accidentally threw it away in what looked like packaging material. It was a long thin white box that had this tiny USB device embedded in it. I have to retrieve it from the trash, but it was unharmed. The front of the unit is smaller than my thumb nail and about as thick as three quarters stacked on each other. It makes sense to use a wireless interface in order to prevent wire tangle.Read more ›
In terms of features, it's perfect, however, the buck stops here.
When equipped with a heavy laptop from a few years ago, which weighs 5 lbs, the additional weight of the Lapdesk gives a total of more than 7 lbs on your lap. The comfort of the soft surface very quickly turned into blood-vessel-cinching discomfort, and the Lapdesk as a result stayed dormant and abandoned next to the couch for the next month or so until we rediscovered it.
It also does not make sense for light devices such as ultraportables and tablets. These new devices are light and cool in terms of temperature, and the problems the Lapdesk sought to mitigate do not apply to them, but instead added additional weight and bulk to them.
The Lapdesk also does not work well ergonomically. Since the touchpad slides out on the right, it leaves the users two choice, neither of which optimal:
A) In order to keep the center of weight spread evenly across the lap, the touchpad will jut out cantilevered on the right. When the right hand rests upon the touchpad, the weight becomes unevenly spread, which is uncomfortable, and as a result, the use of the touchpad is being avoided.
B) In order to keep the weight balanced with the touchpad, the laptop is placed off-centered to the left, which is not optimal for viewing the screen.Read more ›
