Great for a couch keyboard

Great for a couch keyboard
Marketed as a passive cooling pad for laptops, this lapdesk's innate purpose was completely missed by Logitech's marketing staff. It doesn't make much sense that many people would need a peripheral wireless touchpad for a laptop that already has an integrated touchpad -- at least in numbers that would warrant mass production of this lapdesk, right? Laptop trackpads simply don't go bad often enough to create a large market for a lapdesk such as this. And that's where Logitech's marketing missed the mark. This lapdesk is not for laptops: it's for keyboards.Coupling this lapdesk with a wireless, tenkeyless keyboard, something like the Royal Kludge Sink87G (pictured #1) or the Corsair K63 or Keychron K4 (pictured #2) or similar, the N600's true purpose is revealed as the pointing device half of the perfect couch keyboard. Unfortunately, the perfect couch keyboard does not exist on its own. Sure, the Logitech K830 and Corsair K83 both come close, but those keyboards have membrane keys. Rii, Rapoo, and others offer similar layouts employing scissor keys -- less spongy but more fragile, and still not as responsive as mech. Wireless illuminated mechanical keyboards with integrated pointing devices are exceedingly rare. The Tex Yoda II might fit the bill if it were wireless and had arrow and function keys. The Ajazz Zero looks pretty interesting at first with its integrated pointer nubby, until you discover its driver is not easily downloadable, and its tragic key layout makes the right shift and other modifier keys a nightmare for a touch typist. Ultimately, in order to get the perfect mechanical couch keyboard, you NEED the Logitech N600 lapdesk.Sadly, this lapdesk appears to be discontinued. Searching "n600" on logitech.com yields 0 results. (You can still find its support page via a Google search, though.) Anyone on the fence ought to go ahead and grab one while you can.The N600 touch pad reveals its age with a lack of support for modern touch pad gestures. Although you can tap to click and two-finger drag to scroll, the touch pad will not allow tap-and-drag, nor two-finger tap to right-click, three-finger middle-click, nor three-finger vertical swipe to minimize / maximize. The touch pad does feature physical buttons for left and right-click, and middle-click can be assigned to the Home button using the SetPoint software. It's primitive, but workable. In any case, the N600 has no direct competitors as far as I'm aware, which is why it gets the full 5 stars. It is the absolute best in its class. There do exist standalone wireless touch pads, probably with more modern swipe behaviors; but none integrated into a lapboard, and none easily found for less than 40 bucks. Compare the price of the Logitech N600 to the Apple Magic Trackpad or the Dell TP713, either of which would be profoundly more cumbersome to wield on a couch with a mech keyboard.
