However, like many other cordless mouse, this is is heavy and thus decreases its ergonomic. Not a good thing to use for an extensive amount of time (such as at work or playing games all day).
The zoom function while might appears to be good for some users is especially not good for me since I play games and use Firefox, the scroll button (when you click the scroll wheel) was captured by SetPoint and I have not found out a way to release it to the applications. So I have to live with not using the wheel button for many shortcuts. I would appreciate it if the wheel mouse button can be released in the settings of setpoint.
CHANGED: I have found out how to do it. I set it to generic button and voila everything falls into place. This is awesome. Can't change my stars to 5/5 though.
Overall I would recommend this mouse to average user. But beware, it would strain your wrist with its weight.
Pros (in my mind):
1) Scroll wheel has obvious detentes (clicks, for those who like to scroll page-by-page), which the MX1000 did not have
2) Tilt wheel, so that one can scroll left/right as well as up/down using the same scroll wheel.
3) Extra thumb buttons: by default, "forward"/"back" functions for web-browsing. I'm a Mozilla user, and I remapped mine to "close tab" (Ctrl+F4) and "open link in a new tab" (middle-click); note for "forward"/"back" mapping in Mozilla, use "alt+left arrow"/"alt+right arrow".
4) Cordless design for those who like that. Supposedly 6 month battery life...we'll see. But in any case, it uses AA batteries, which are plentiful and long-lasting in my household (both alkaline and NiMH).
5) Ambidextrous, comfortable, curvacious design. When test-holding different mice at Office Depot, I liked the feel of the Mediaplay better than the MX510 and MX1000. To each their own, test-hold the mice for yourself.
6) Media functions will work after a minimalist driver install (I used Setpoint 2.14 from [...] CD is still unopened.
7) If you use the provided "extension dock," moving this mouse from one computer to another is super-easy, by just removing the USB receiver (looks like a USB flash drive) and plug it in elsewhere!
Cons (in my mind):
1) Cannot reassign the 5 media buttons (vol up/down, playpause, previous/next) with the software, as far as I know. I thought I was getting an 11-button (11 custom functions) mouse, but really it's more like a 6-button mouse with extra media features (which are nice, but I prefer FULL control. Also, I'm used to having a longer list of programmable features for mouse buttons, but all of my needs are on the list.
2) Setpoint driver trumps my old Logitech mouseware. I currently have my old Logitech C48 (FirstMouse Wheel) plugged into PS/2, but it no longer double-clicks when I middle-click (what I assigned).
All-in-all highly recommended!

I first bought Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse in 2005 for $CDN 25. from Staples in Ottawa during clearance sale. I did not know it is the best mouse until I use it to transcribe the lectures at university. I can program it to listen to audio, fast forward/backward, skip forward/backward, pause, increase/decrease volume, plus it basic functions such as zoom up/down/sideways, page forward/backward...you name it. A few years later I want to buy another for my second computer. Unfortunately, it's discontinued. Then I bought MX600 which does not have many programs, cannot program to fast forward/backward, and often it acts up, it tends to zoom over +500 and I have to restart computer. That's why I am willing to pay almost CDN $200 including tax to have this mouse. I wish I could buy another shipped to Canada. I don't understand why Logitech discontinue this magical mouse. Nothing is closed or can replace this one. My first one is still working perfectly and I use it everyday from early morning till pass midnight since 2005. It is very comfortable my hand never get tired as other mouse. It provides all the benefits as advertised. I wish Logitech make another mouse similar to this one I would buy at least 10 to stock and give to my friends and relatives as gift.
