There are plenty of speakers out there, with more features than you'll ever use, and price tags that will make millionaires blink. Sometimes, you just want a good basic set of speakers. Logitech S150 understands. These speakers will deliver what you need: acoustic quality stereo sound. The controls are all you ever really want: volume control, USB connectivity and a LED power indicator. These speakers will keep sound quality up without putting a hole in your pocketbook.
Top Customer Reviews
I gave it 4 stars because the speakers work flawlessly, are simple to setup, and are a great value, but I think those settings should have been set by default for my audio experience. Perhaps they can't know every configuration, or system the product might be installed upon. But, You can't please all of the people all of the time, as they say.
The volume control is better than prior reviews mentioned, at least on my Mac, you have a full up and down (not high and low), and there is a middle mute button. There is no on or off button, the speakers are either on or not plugged in and a dim orange light is on the front.
Unfortunately anyone looking for any volume at all barely above speech level is just not going to be satisfied. They play music and sound and that's about it. Would be fine in a quiet office environment. Reminds me of the old PC speakers that weren't powered by AC at all, it was simply the line level signal powering them so max volume was again, about speech level. By contrast, Logitech speakers of the same size that plug in to a wall AC outlet will be doubly loud.
I know, not really the fault of the product as these are only USB powered, but the low volume and odd lack of a headphone jack are reasons for my 3 star "OK" rating.
The audio range here is slim. That is, you can go from "loud enough" to "somewhat more than loud enough". They'll do the job unless the job is "play quietly". I really don't know why there are volume controls on the speakers at all. The MUTE button does work as it should, though.
I watch movies at work overnight, either YouTube or downloaded, on my laptop and with the background noise at work it was hard to hear the laptop speakers. Some laptops have better speakers, but I figured buying some cheap speakers is cheaper than buying a new laptop.
These work perfect for my situation. The sound is nice and clear, and can get loud enough for normal listening. I even tried some music and they are pretty decent. If you buy these speakers expecting much more, you will be disappointed.
One thing I was worried about, I use Linux and these speakers don't have the usual 3.5 headphone jack, they are digital, which means the sound card is basically built in to the speakers. So the sound transfers from the computer to the speakers through USB, as well as the power. I didn't read enough before I bought these to know that, and Linux can be finicky. But I was able to go into the sound mixer and change the output device to USB speakers and they work perfectly. Anyone using Windows won't have any problems, this would probably be done automatically when you plug in the USB cable. 1 less cord to get tangled up is a good thing.
I would recommend these speakers to anyone who is not looking to shake the walls, but just requires decent sound at a great price. And they are small enough to pack nicely in my backpack along with my laptop.
They are holding up for us and the buttons all work. It has a nice look for the price. I like that these just use the usb for power instead of needing another outlet. They are very portable and will purchase another one for a back up or for the other computer.
If you are looking for some cheap speakers that are not extremely loud, but sound okay, not great, give this a try. I would recommend these to anyone wanting to increase the volume and not rock the house.
The USB cord is pretty short (I bought this for desktop use, not laptop) so it was a bit of a challenge to get it plugged in and to stretch the two speakers to put them on either side of my dual monitor setup.
Overall, they work. They were cheap. Four stars.
