Bought this thing in 2007 I think, so years later(still use it at the time) Was trimming my curtains with scissors because they were very long, but didn't realize that one of my back speaker coord was in the way and ended up cutting it completely destroying that speaker.
I was like "Dang It!, that didn't just happen?" Anyways gonna make this review go fast, I Still used it because i couldn't tell the difference with a missing speaker, It was still great sounding, so a few more years passed, got some money and figured it was the time for an upgrade....lol yeah upgrade!, so bought a Logitech newer model, played it for awhile but notice it cracks when you turn volume to a certain level, also it had less bass then my old one.
Well to make this story shorter I reverted back to my old one(this one) and took one of the speakers from the new one and used it with this Speaker set, gave the new one to my son...LOL, He is happy and As I write this, I'm still using this speaker setup, The woofer is heavy and clear with lots of bass even after all these years...Better than most newer set ups!. Price is kinda high, even higher than what i bought it for in 2007, I Bought it for $399, now its over $600 in 2018!, you get what you pay for!. Great Speakers!.
I am betting that even now, there aren't sets BETTER than this one. Perhaps the same and with an added optical input which might give "purer" sound. But nothing can take away the 8 years of joy they've given me. And they would you should you still be able to find a set....likely at rock-bottom prices. I say: go for it!
For games it is awesome sounding, and teamed with a Creative X-Fi sound card, it's easy to configure the different output options other than switching the slide switch behind the woofer.
For music it sounds very crisp, clear, and still plenty more bass than ya need. The mids could be better, but tweaking the eq settings in your sound card software can patch that up. When I switch my X-fi from game mode to entertainment mode however, I do get some static-y crackling, as if somethings not shielded, that you can hear when there is no sound output, or very quiet music passages. Not sure where this is coming from, but since it doesn't happen in game mode, sounds like it's from the sound card.
The woofer enclosure is indeed VERY large, if you put it under your desk, you either have no room for your feet, or a nice footrest. Cables are adequate for putting around you as you sit at the computer, if you want them in the 4 corners of your room you can get extensions, they are just standard rca audio connectors, unlike others that hardwire them in, or use some weird plugs.
My first one arrived with the center channel not working, it was the amp, not speakers. Amazon sent me a replacement right away, before I sent the defect back even. Very nice, although I was told my cost for shipping back would be credited back, and it hasn't.
Replacement works fine, fraggin and crankin the tunes for about a month now, and glad I made the purchase.
The subwoofer is massive and the bass can be a little overwhelming, but if your audio software has a setting for low frequency crossover, you can easily adjust the amount of bass that you want coming through.
Not only do these speakers sound good. They also look good. Both with and without the grilles attached.
This purchase has really sold me on the quality of Logitech products. I am the kind of guy who expects stuff to last forever and this surround sound system has certainly met my expectations in that department.
I will be looking to Logitech first from now on when replacing any failing components on my overworked PC.
