Loleatta Holloway sadly passed away in 2011 at the age of 64 due to heart failure. This BBR release of her classic 1977 album LOLEATTA is a superb tribute to her immense talent. She had a broad voice with immense vocal range. She could belt great disco tracks or put her talent to great use tackling emotional ballads with heartfelt intensity. This cd is a disco masterpiece with HIT AND RUN, RIPPED OFF and WE'RE GETTING STRONGER showcasing her amazing vocals at their best. Ballads WORN OUT BROKEN HEART and WHAT NOW will melt your heart and the balance of disco and ballads is superb. My favorite track is the uptempo DREAMIN. BBR always does true justice to 70s classics and here the sound quality is amazing. And with the 6 bonus tracks there is almost 80 minutes of music. There are 3 extended version disco tracks, 3 single versions of songs and the previously unreleased RUN AWAY done with the Salsoul Orchestra. It is another truly amazing disco track.

BBR also includes a booklet with extensive liner notes. This cd is a true testament to the gifted Loleatta Hollaway and I hope BBR sees fit to release more of her classic albums. She had a voice truly meant to live on. Purchase this for HIT AND RUN and WORN OUT BROKEN HEART alone. Highly recommended.

Loleatta Holloways’s “Loleatta”, released in 1977, was the Diva’s debut album for the Salsoul Distributed Gold Star label. Holloway is a brilliant vocalist, blessed with the kind of spine tingling voice that can only be a gift from above. Holloway became known as a Disco Diva, and there are a few classic Dance grooves here that have stood the taste of time 37 years after they were first released. “Hit And Run” is a timeless Dance anthem that found a home is Discos across the country and was later sampled and re-mixed by DJ’s across the continent, including the Italian maestros Harley and Muscle. But Loleatta Holloway’s original will always be the ultimate recording and it still pulsates with urgency to this day. “We’re Getting Stronger (The Longer We Stay Together)” and “Dreaming” are also killer Dance grooves which both benefit from Holloway’s amazingly passionate voice. Check out “Ripped Off”, in which Holloway delivers a killer dialogue in which she shouts about other women trying to take her man. “That’s How Heartaches Are Made” is a mid tempo R&B groove that also hits home thanks to Holloway’s vocals.

As at home as Loleatta Holloway is on up tempo dance grooves, Holloway’s vocal brilliance shines best when she slows down the pace. “Worn Out Broken Heart” and “What Now” are both striking R&B ballads on which Holloway displays her gospel infused raw, aching vocals to a heart breaking effect. “Is It Just A Man’s Way?” is another slow jam in which Holloway’s voice is her greatest instrument and her show case. The three ballads on this album will stay with you long after you play them.

Big Thanks to Big Break Records for re-mastering this masterpiece.

Sounding as if she got paid by the note, Loleatta Holloway's boundless vocal abilities are a gift to the ears, heart and dancing feet. This, her debut for Salsoul, illustrates every morsel of her incredible talent. Gloria and Donna made great disco, but Loleatta took the genre and added astounding church-like vocals to tracks such as Hit and Run, Ripped Off, and Dreamin'; ensuring that she too would have a special place amongst the very best of the disco queens. Her power to knock us out on the dance floor was replicated on the ballads, Is It Just A Man's Way, What Now, and the totally awesome, Worn Out Broken Heart. That's How Heartaches Are Made, and the wonderfully uplifting, We're Getting Stronger (sampled on Whitney's last 'Million Dollar' hit), help to cork this album as Loleatta's all-time best. I could honestly listen to it a million times over and never tire of it.

Big Break Records have added essential bonus material to this reissue, making it a critical purchase, and as usual, the sound quality and liner notes could not be bettered. Once again, this CD could NOT be bettered!

I met Loleatta after her outrageous stage show at a popular London club. During Love Sensation, the bubbly singer dropped to her knees and subjected her microphone to simulated fellatio. Not at all what I was expecting from the former gospel singer...but it went down well (!) with the mostly gay audience. The gorgeous lady was kind enough to autograph my records (including the original of this one) and gave me the biggest kiss, ever! A moment I will appreciate for a lifetime.

Loleatta was a hit vocal sensation, and a truly special human being, too. With abilities that will never be surpassed, this incredible CD is a poignant reminder of her talent, but also of our sadness that she is no longer physically here. RIP and love, sweet lady. xxx

I used to have the Album/record of this CD...and it got lost when my family moved..I found the CD to be just like having the album and it is one of my best CD's in my collection. The seller sent it and the CD arrived right on time and was brand new. I will order from this dealer again.
