When Joe Dever began to release what came to be a world-renowned series that still, after more than 20 years, he probably didn't expect this to happen. Ten million+ copies have been sold and translated into eighteen languages.
Joe Dever pulled a George Lucas, but he did it well: he has gone and re-released the entirety of the series, to be produced and published by Mongoose Press. And this is just the beginning. Mongoose is going to do the release working together with Dever, and he has the opportunity to release the books 'the way he always intended to'. And this one is amazing. Dever provides this book with a fattened page count that includes a few aspect of the original classic.
It's your choice. Choose carefully, as the skills and equipment you have will either save your character or leave you miserable as you character dies because they ran out of food. The book provides a character sheet to track your progress throughout the pages. Like the original series, task resolution is figured based on your character's powers or dumb luck. One die roll (a d10, if you have one lying about) or one shot at a built-in random number table and your success or failure are decided.
Seriously. I said 'dark fantasy', didn't I? Well, don't expect fairies and the Lollipop Guild. This is the original dark fantasy meta-plot. Solid writing and haunting artwork aside, it is a bit more dark than anything available to kids back in the years prior. Who knows, you might like to read the whole series of near 30 books. If you make different decisions different, this book offers myriad endings.
Then you can go back and read it again... and again, and again.
