As far as descriptions of sights, restaurants tours, history, etc, the information was pretty accurate. But actually being in Prague and using the book to get around to different sights and restaurants was extremely difficult.

Instead of having a chapter on a specific neighborhood with everything in that neighborhood, they have a chapter on neighborhoods, then shopping, then eating, then drinking, then entertainment, etc. Having to flip to the eating section, then flip back to the neighborhood section, then flip to the map to see where it was located was very time consuming and annoying.

Another thing I didn't like was that the writing on the maps was much too small. I have perfect reading vision and could barely make out the street names and numbers.

Recently purchased the 9th Edition and found the pullout maps to be useless. The text is printed in an incredibly small font. I purchased this book without seeing it first based on experience with past Lonely Planet books. Never again. Outside of the history of Prague, I found little useful about this city guide. I was better served with a map provided by the hotel and what information I could gather online. I am shifting to Frommer's.

I have spent 6 days in Prague with this book and I can say this is a good tourist book for short trips. Not perfect though: the list of hotels is very weak, so better if you look for them yourself; restaurants listed as very good tend to became worse after good Lonely Planet-reviews. Otherwise this is really a nice guide with lots of useful tips.

Useful little book with very good coverage of the main sites to visit and some excellent up front guidance on getting about by public transport- the great tram system and the tubes. have used the rough guides before for Rome and Venice and I think they are still my favoured option. The pull out map that comes with the LPC guide was a definite positive so worth checking that is in place before purchasing second hand.

Having visited Prague over the Easter weekend I brought two guide books with me but all you really need is this one. It just missed a 5 star rating as it was published in 2010 so there were a few out of date pieces of information and reviews, but that is to be expected. I would recommend checking out the 'Best breakfast' text box (but note, 'Red Hot & Blues' is closed down, whether it's due to reopen I don't know) and the 'Weird art' text box (page 142) detailing the sculptures of David Cerny scattered about Prague. The maps are great and easy to use and the book is broken down into background, neighbourhoods, eating, drinking, shopping, etc with some nice photography at the start. Great guide book, you can't really steer wrong with Lonely Planet.

Lonely Planet at its best, this book provides a good guide to Prague making it easy to find the main sites in Prague with a useful bit of history thrown in. The maps at the back are very good and I found this to be an invaluable guide on my trip. The warnings about pickpockets and cheating taxi drivers may be out of date as I suspect the authorities have got it under control a bit, as I saw neither of these. I did find my hotel to be right in the middle of the red light district but that’s another story (and yes, it turns out the book knew about that as well!!)
I would recommend this book for both a short trip (couple of days) or a longer stay there.

We live in Prague and although this is a good guide in theory, a lot of the info is now out of date. Shops and restaurants change hands frequently here as in any large city, so a lot of the info regarding entertainment is no longer accurate. Time for a new edition please!
