Ms. other books and hope she makes this book the first of a series. I can't wait to read more about her and her friend
The book's got a great story: set in the '70′s in a small town in the midwest, Erica, the main character struggles with disfunctional family, friends and clicks, and of course the all prevading mystery and the "question mark". Like Erica, I found in my own teen years consolation in something greater than ourselves, something more important ... a truth and and a hope that could stand in the face of the "greatest" question mark of the ALL. I don't think I could have made it through my teens without the books that inspired me and gave me hope ... Not So Long Ago, Not so Far Away, brought those inspirations flooding back to me.
You could, I suppose call it just a great summer read; and it is very well-written with a budding romance hiding between the covers.
I rarely rave over such books, even when my niece and I share classics like, "Looking for Alaska", "Perks of Being a WallFlower", etc. Not So Long Ago, Not So Far Away is super cool: unsolved mysteries / Sci-Fi / romance / a passion for a cause ( hey Luke Skywalker!). When you're reading it, maybe this will happen to you, it pops into my mind repeatedly that this book should be made into a movie, casting Molly Ringwald as Erica! ( if only Molly was still 16! ).
The author of Not So Long Ago, Not so Far Away, asks us, "Have you ever lived under a question mark"? I also ask, can we please have more books like this one, that we were destined to read in our teens as permanently impressive, or make the kind of movies that moved us to tears in the theaters of our youth?
I am still hearing the Star War's theme in my head and looking forward to the next book!
