These songs, mostly blues, are my loose adaptations of works performed in the first half of the twentieth century by performers like Son House, Frank Stokes, and Jimmie Rodgers.
"Moonshiners," a country song, has many versions. This version is loosely adapted from the work of Roscoe Holcomb.
"Death Letter," "Downhearted Blues," and "Grinnin' In Your Face" are my arrangements of songs by blues legend Son House.
"Long Gone John" is an adaptation of a song existing in various forms and sometimes known as "Lost John Dean from Bowling Green." It was written by ragtime piano pioneer W.C. Handy.
"Troubled About My Soul" is a Gospel tune sung by Lillie Knox and recorded in the 1940s in South Carolina by musicologist Alan Lomax.
"It Won't Be Long Now" is adapted from the work of Frank Stokes.
"California Blues" is by Jimmie Rodgers. My version omits the yodeling.
