This story gets better with each book. So we pick up where book two left off. Sam and Derek are still trying to find Heather to stop her from killing anyone else and releasing the darkness, while still getting closer to each other after Claudia erased Sam memories of Derek (end of book one). They find where Heather has been hiding but not her. After she attacks Derek's father, she shows up at Sam's wanting her help to get a binding spell from Claudia to help control the darkness once she releases it. Sam is not sure what she should do because it's her sister and she loves her but she is possessed by the darkness. She agrees to help her so she will quit hurting the people close to her and Derek. When they find out that the spell has been stolen, they also figure out that Tommy Collins was not the only witch she has been working with and the darkness is about to be released by her other accomplice.
I volunteered to read a prelease copy for my honest opinion. I could not read this fast enough. I liked it so much, I bought a copy.
I recommend this book, series, and author!
And then darkness gathers to swallow the world, and they must do their best against staggering odds to save not only members of their families, but mankind itself from a world of pain. Together.
This story is so good it magically ensnares you in its clutches and tries to keep you from your daily obligations ;). You have to (regretfully) vanquish yourself to stop reading. I had to stop now only 'coz book 4 isn't out yet, and I can't wait to resume reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
NOTE: If you have not read the previous installment there may be a spoiler in my review.
Told from several third person perspectives LONG AND LOST follows Detective Derek Pierce as he struggles to tweak the memories of the woman that he loves. Thanks to her powerful grandmother, Claudia Harris, Samantha Harris’s memories have been wiped clean of all references to Derek Pierce but the ongoing search for the person responsible for the encroaching darkness finds our leading couple working together towards a common goal. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Derek and Samantha, and the Harris family fallout when the truth is revealed.
LONG AND LOST brings together all of the characters, the players, and the requisite evil in a battle for power and control of the ‘family’. Mallory Crowe gives the reader a happily ever after –for now-for our leading couple, but the story line, once again, ends on a bit of a cliff hanger such that the darkness continues to control those looking for power or retribution.
Mallory Crowe’s world of witches and magic is imaginative, enchanting and intense. No one is safe; everyone is suspect; trust is measured a little bit at a time. The premise is energetic; the characters are animated and passionate; the romance intimate and emotional. LONG AND LOST and The Bewitching Hour series is an electrifying and tragic tale of greed, power and the struggle for control.
The 3rd installment of this series.
Three words start this book for me: DAMN YOU GRANDMOTHER!
Everything was looking up for the couple. But, grandmother had to go and be mean by taking Derek completely out of Sam's mind.
They must work together again. Heather has disappeared and no spell or potion, nothing is working in finding her.
Sam once again takes a potion. However, this time she has no idea what it will do. Derek is right by her side. Heather comes to Derek and asks, no demands he set up a meeting with Claudia (Grandmother). Bastian (Sam'a partner) finds Heather first. She in-turn puts something in his head.
Heather goes after Derek's father and Sam is the only one that can save him.
We find out that Heather was trying to use Bastian to kill Claudia, it doesn't work of course. It comes out that Claudia once had a run in with the darkness, but she ended up being able to basically bottle it. However, that bottle was stolen from her vault.
When this is discovered, the question becomes, who is Heather working with or for.
In answering this question, it becomes known that whoever it is has turned on Heather.
Heather, in the end, releases the darkness!
Derek is stuck, should he shoot or not?
The answer is given when Claudia comes into the room.
The darkness is gone...or is it?
