This is so beautifully written with lyrical language, and is engrossing. It is hard to put down, or as a friend says "unputdownable."
We get magnificent characters for our full enjoyment, with deep anticipation and sexual desire, plus a great flow of the plot which draws our complete attention. LOVED IT !
When Travis's past is told, Ray's heart melts, and so does ours. These two men belong together, but their lives, the ranch and workers, and the reputations are all at stake. We get awesome sexy, erotic times with these two, so hot !
Jesse's dad and idiot friends come to wreak havoc with gay slurs, drunkenness, and start a fire.
There's also some excitement when Travis is air-lifted to the hospital from a different event. The men bond even deeper after that, and they "come out" to family and ranch hands.
The end and epilogue are marvelous. This is an amazing story.
I highly recommend it ! ENJOY !
Ray and Travis live and work in a milieu that is traditionally homophobic.
Ray owns a renowned ranch. Since witnessing a tragic happening many years ago, he has done his utmost to stay in the closet, because he does not want to lose his livelihood the way their neighbour had. Too many people depend on him.
Travis on the other hand is a victim of homophobia himself. His father had beaten him up and thrown out of his home when he was only 15. He has become a wanderer, training horses and avoiding relationships that could reveal his preferences. Although he gets beaten from time to time still.
Travis chooses to come to Ford Creek Ranch because of its reputation. He does not expect meeting the one man he would gladly give up his lifestyle for and settle down. When Ray picks up a cowboy an early Sunday morning, he gets more than a famous horse trainer, he meets the man he will give up his solitary life for.
I was not looking for a book meant for centuries, but some entertainment - and I've got what I was looking for.
4,25 stars for this one.
Travis a well known horse trainer renown for his abilities with horses is kicked out when his family found he was Gay and he was man enough to except and make it his job to protect and help anyone who is Gay but at the same time live his life as he wished. One job he had when they found he was Gay they fired him and a group of the ranch hands jumped and beat him up for it. But being a strong person he did not let this stop him he continue on his way as A Gay and Proud Cowboy.
The second person in the book is Ray a ranch owner who is Gay but in many way denies it due to what the world will have to say and how the result would be if he comes out on the ranch and it future ad finally his standing in the community. His fear is from a incident that had happen over 20 years ago to anther rancher was drove out of town, beaten up and ruined due to being Gay. Ray's father was one of the people involved with this incident and Ray knew it and feared to come out.
The story is very simple when the right person comes alone you know it and as for so many people sometime you have to make changes and learn to not fear the future but fear what you may loose. Travis knows what he wants a home, a place to hang his hat and a man he can love but he must let Ray take his time to learn and get over his fear and Travis does. What happens is that Ray all most looses Travis twice once when a x-ranch hands sets fire to Travis cabin and Travis is all most killed and the second time when while riding the horse Travis is riding falls on Travis and crushes him and a branch from a tree is impaled into Travis and all most kills him. It took these two incidents to make Ray look inside and start facing his fears and learn how much he is in love with Travis and he will do anything to keep him around.
I feel the morale of this book we are what we are and to be proud and and things will work out for the best and the right person comes your way be ready to grab and hold on for the ride for it is meant to be you will over come and find who will stand by you and who is there to hold and keep you tight through all battles.
