I thought I loved Kimi and Calvin before, but now I absolutely adore them and they may just be my favorite couple of the series or at least top three. (It tends to change when I start a re read). But regardless, I loved that while Kimi is definitely a Blonde Tornado in every way ~ firey, speaks her mind, knows who she is and what she wants ~ she is also a deeply caring and observant woman, even when we meet her at the tender age of sixteen.
Calvin is all sexy charm and charisma, something that we’ve come to expect and love about all the men in the Rough Rider world, but his runs on the calmer, more relaxed side of the coin though he’s just as sly, intense and determined as the rest of them.
I loved how their relationship progressed. Having known already that they’d had that instant connection from reading Cowboy Take Me Away, it was fun to watch how they handled it. The open and honest nature of their relationship was refreshing, as was the lack of unnecessary drama, and the chemistry between them as hot as Kimi’s fiery personality.
As for that excerpt about Sierra and Boone? What a perfect start (continuation?) of their story and it looks like it’s going to be a wild ride.
The Bottom Line: I loved this glimpse into the beginning of Kimi and Calvin’s relationship and though I do want more, I’m satisfied...for now.
It's a short novella and I don't want to provide any spoilers so I'm not going to retell the story. It's been a while since I read a Rough Riders book but even if you haven't been a fan of this series for years, pick up this book and enjoy the romance, smoldering sex, a little angsty separation, and then go back and read or reread the rest of the series. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for another tale of the McKay/West clan, Ms. James. Much appreciated. Oh, and the peek at Boone and Sierra. We've been waiting a while for their story and to know it's still on track is wonderful.
Kimi and Cal are a couple you just know love each other but to be able to see how they met and fell in love was a gift. This is a perfect addition to the Rough Riders series and I'm so glad Lorelei decided to tell us their story. I love this family as if it were my own.
Don't miss out on this novella.
The sneak peek of Boone and Sierra will tie you in all kinds of knots. Looking forward to February!
After five years she came back to Wyoming. While she was gone, Cal renovated his house and ranch and built two chicken coops for Kimi. He did all the right things while waiting for her to be ready for a life with him. She returned to him. He did all the right things once again.
Could there be a man any better than fictional Cal? Never. If you find one like him, hang on and never let him go.
This is a book about family, dysfunction, and devotion. It's also about two people who love and respect each other enough to be supportive of their individuality and secure in their connection. This is a lovely story about what adult love really means.
