Sometimes when it comes to series the story line don't add up just exactly right. That is soooo NOT the case with both the Pilgrims Cove and Sea View House series. There so nothing but consistency in both series. The characters are the same, with exception of the main characters that stay at Sea View House. Those main characters then seamlessly flow into supporting characters in the next book.
Personally, this one is my favorite from both series. Doing animal rescue myself I related to Adam and his dream of opening a rescue. I absolutely loved that retired greyhounds were his main focus. Those gentle giants that lead such a hard life and deserve the opportunity to belong in a loving family.
I also enjoyed how Ms. Barrett incorporated the Boston bombing into this book. That was a huge event that impacted many people. Having Becca representing a victim of the bombing...Those victims are heroes. They might not have been overseas fighting terrorists, but they ultimately fought against terrorists by overcoming everything those cowards did when they set off that bomb. They didn't let the terrorists win.
So without any major spoiler alerts....this book is a winner. Overcoming obstacles. Defeating our own demons, real or imagined. A must read for lovers of love, animals, and overcoming problems!
Adam first saw Rebecca at the bar noticing what a beautiful woman she was but also saw something deeper that was wrong. Becca mistook his look a judgmental and had all ready written him off. Adam is the towns vet and very active in savings retired greyhounds and rehabilitating them for adoption to families.
Adam has his own plight he is trying to get the money together to expand his clinic for the greyhounds and keeps hitting obstacles. Becca struggling to learn to walk again and feel like a whole woman. It is amazing to read a follow along in this story the ups and downs they they face and deal with and come to a pretty great conclusion at the end
Adam is strong loving man.
The chemistry is good between these two.
I enjoyed the story.
It is inspirational. Rebecca is a fighter. She is a woman to be admired.
I didn't really like how the story made Adam seem desperate for love. He has love and the whole Lila blurb made him seem desperate and I didn't really get that feeling from him.
I liked how Rebecca owned up to her lie pretty much right away. This was refreshing.
Becca has always been an athlete and learning to live in her new world has taken a toll on her. She is in rehab, she is working hard to develop her strength and be able to be self sufficient.
She runs into a very special deal. She can live for free in Sea View House. She will have the down stairs apartment, it is right on the sea and she can hear the waves and the gulls.
Two of the people she meets in Pilgrim Cove are Adam Fielding and his daughter, Sara. Adam is a veterinarian who rescues greyhound dogs who are former racers. He hopes to build a center for rescued greys.
Becca and Adam become friends and Becca and Sara become “sisters of the heart.”
This is a lovely gentle story. The plot is woven around Becca's struggle to rebuild her life and regain the confidence she once had. It is also about a town filled with people who care about and support one another. The ROMEO's are Retired Older Men who Eat Out. They believe in the magic of love and caring for other human beings.
The characters are very likable. Becca and Adam are terrific but the character who stole the show for me was Sara. She is a very wise 10 year old who sees the world around her and wants to make it better.
I liked this book very much. If you are a reader who enjoys small town life filled with characters who are interesting, this is a book you will love. And if you are a reader who wants to see a story of someone who was a survivor of the attack in Boston and is overcoming very well, this is a book you will love.
