The book starts off with Ava going into preterm labor and delivering her baby girl 13 weeks early weighing only two pounds. The father of the baby her boyfriend Sabastian is in Afghanistan in the Army. Her best friend Caleb is on a business trip. She has no one to turn too she is once again alone.
Then enter the sexy green eyed neonatologist Dr. Aston Bailey. Her baby’s doctor. The energy changes for her and she feels different when he is around. He is the first person that makes her smile. She knows she can’t have him she is in love with a different man. He knows he can’t have her because she is in love with a different man. They try to stay away from each other but is trying enough?
This is definitely a must read. This is my first Elena Matthews book and I loved it. Just make sure you grab your Kleenex and get ready for a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The characters pull you into the book and you won’t want to leave. I can’t wait to check out the 2nd book of the series.

The story kept my interest. I felt a variety of emotions while reading which is not my usual response. I really liked both Aston, the H, and Sebastian the boyfriend/fiancee. I liked that the author did not take the easy way out and make Sebastian have undesirable qualities or be a cheater too. Sebastian was a great guy. He was a good faithful boyfriend who provided as much emotional support as he could being away. He loved her and cared about her well being. He treated her and their daughter well. Ashton too was likable. He was a dedicated doctor, loving, faithful to Ava, the h, and was a great support system for her. The only thing that detracted from how much I liked him is that he knowingly entered into a sexual relationship with a woman who was engaged and had a baby with another man who was out of the country and not able to there. Otherwise Aston was ideal. Caleb, Ava's best friend was great too. He gave her 100 percent support, doing everything from leaving a foreign country that he was at work as soon as he heard that she needed him to living with her to make things easier on her. He helped her when she was sick. He was at the hospital a lot, spending time both with the baby and Ava when he was not working.
While I felt sorry for Ava because what she went through as a child and with her baby and brother in the present, she irritated me. I know that she was going through a difficult time and was abused in the past but she seemed to whine, cry and complain too much. Also she was occasionally mean to people who were just trying to help her, including the hospital staff. It made me mad how she treated Caleb. She used him and like her relationship with Aston and Sebastian, it seemed one sided. Everything was always about her. IMO she was selfish. Also, it was wrong for her to sleep with Ashton before breaking up with Sebastian. While Sebastian still would have been hurt, it would be easier handle if she was not cheating on him too. She betrayed him and hurt his trust of people. He never suspected that she was capable of doing that to him. Given how selfish she acted, it was not surprising to me. A few of the characters mannerism got on my nerves. Aston was always smirking at Ava. As we know, smirking is to smile in an irritatingly smug, conceited, or silly way. Aston was described as an extremely attractive man. Why detract from that by having him frequently smirk? Also there were a few grammar mistakes but not many. I would be willing to read another book by this author because she did a good job.
Ms. Matthews write characters that have do much depth. Ava has a tragic past that only her best friend knows about. In the end that pasts comes back to haunt her. As her premie daughter fights for her life, her boyfriend is stationed in Afghanistan. Can she be strong and be the mother she needs to be?
I was torn with who I wanted Ava to be with. However the story really does have to do with all of the battles that the characters have to fight. It was a heart wrenching story that will crush your heart and then try to piece it back together.
If you liked Arsen by Mia Asher I think you would like this story.
I downloaded this book, because I was a preemie myself; thus, I was intrigued by the prospect of finding love in a NICU, despite the infidelity thread that I hated! Please, please, please give Sebastian his happily ever after, and make him and Ava able to coparent civilly!
