This is an excellent book, prepared and presented with loving care. I hope Ray's graphics are being maintained with care so that those do not face the same fate that his films had faced. Thankfully the films are now restored. His sketches, designs for film sets and costumes, the posters are all amazing. We are grateful that we had a person of his capability among us. Ray has left so much behind for all of us to enjoy over long long time to come. Towards the end of this book there are couple of articles which are very valuable. I personally had never read them earlier. One is 'DK at work' written by Ray himself, which unfolds to the readers details of the very start of his career as a graphic artist, which resulted in his making of 'Pather Panchali'. DK was Dilip Gupta who had founded the Signet Press, where Ray was the illustrator and jacket designer of the wonderful literary publications. I can recall those books from my childhood. The book of adventures in Africa called 'Chander Pahar' written by Bibhutibhusan Mukherjee, the author of 'Pather Panchali, had an excellent cover with simple line sketch by Ray. The Bengali translation of Jim Corbett's "Man-eaters of Kumaon" where Ray had designed a wrap around cover, using the skin of the tiger as the background, with one circular patch depicting the bullet hole, serving the space for the title of the book. And of course the wonderful cover design and illustrations by Ray for the abridged edition of 'Pather Panchali' which was published by Signet Press as 'Am Anthir Bhepu'. I hope someone re-publishes those books in the same original tasteful format. My own childhood copies of the books are all gone. I was delighted to learn that the author Jayanti Sen had the opportunity to work with Ray on some of his films (though no details provided).
