Down side. My mother always looked so 'put together' with her thrift store clothes that the doctors didn't believe that she was sick with a thyroid storm until she nearly died.
So this proves that the book has great advice, but it also shows that you shouldn't take too much care when you go to the doctor.
It's sad that so many of us modern women are so lost when it comes to basic things like makeup, nails, and dressing. It's good that there's a basic formula that can save us all - if we apply it.
Thank you, Linda.
This book is a really helpful guide of finding your own style and building your own wardrobe. She helps you thru the difficult parts and shows you how to build - one piece at a time. She gives so many helpful hints on accessorizing to keep your look fresh rather than faddish. And the very best of all, it can be attained affordably!
I took her advice to heart and have the beginnings of a wonderful wardrobe that will help me to keep stylish for years.
Heck, it even helped me to win an award for personal style.
Thanks, Ms. Dano, for a much needed book for the average woman.
I do wish she would advise on the basics - but with better advise ( I am short 5'3 ) so on page 68, Linda says to buy a jacket ..but not what kind of cut - I should buy .. in other books , they advise the jacket should not pass my hip bone - but Linda does not speak on this issue. The same for the long skirt - other books say , due to my shortness - I should stay away, because this makes me look shorter.
BUT i still like this book, it has some very funny stories Linda shares with her readers. And I really like the way, she makes a list of things, for everything , work, weekends, and evenings. How to shop .. what kind of fabrics are good , etc
so I gave the book 3 stars --- a good buy , as a used book
My only complaint is that more time and space was spent on wardrobes for work and not leisure wear. And I could have lived without the chapters on makeup and weight loss; I'd love an entire book from Linda Dano focusing solely on clothing.
