Davis steeps her fictive world in evocative imagery--"He watched her eat daintily, the long thin fingers picking at her food like knitting needles"--and a vibrant, lyrical prose. ...Harshly beautiful stories, shot through with spiritual exaltation. Kirkus Reviews
.. tales of life miracles, tragedies, loves and hates with an intimate view into the inner lives and hearts of some of the most engaging people who once lived. The book is so authentic, moving and inspirational, appealing to religious and secular alike, it may be the finest, most honest, writing ever written.

From the Back Cover
A Unique Combination: A multi-layered literary "sandwich," if you will. The first layer, the "bread" being the introduction of this unusual adventure of the author - the surprising visions that began as scenes in her mind and were faithfully recorded as life stories - and the steps in her spiritual evolution that this puzzling, lovely and sometimes troubling event prompted. The middle, meaty layers, being the stories that she relates with such strong visual description that the readers will feel they are literally "on the scene" with her, watching her characters live out what they must have regarded as the important moments of their lives. Each story is skillfully told in the narrative style of classic storytelling that is timeless. Each is different from the others and all are a delight to read. Savoring slowly is required. Meditation is optional. There is plenty here to provoke thought and enjoy, both for the contemplative and the lover of rich stories. Is life "but a dream" - or perhaps, a series of projections?
"Looking Out the Back Door" captures the essential core qualities of what makes us human, as each story explores pivotal moments in peoples lives. This book invites us to consider thoughts and feelings of those who've lived lifetimes ago, in a way that holds a kind of sacred space around each of these individuals as their stories touch our minds and hearts. The gift we receive in return for experiencing these stories is profound, as the characters in these stories feel as real as our own friends and family, and as we feel the growth and spiritual development attained with each life-changing event. There is magic in the realization that we are knowing and feeling the deepest, innermost thoughts and feelings of those who've lived before, and in sharing such fundamental basic truths of human emotional relationships. Whether these stories are the author's past lives, lives in parallel or alternative worlds, or lives of others throughout history doesn't seem to matter nearly as much as the sincerity of heartfelt connection that comes shining through each and every story in this profound book. Later in life... two kids & a divorce later, I seemed to lose my best friend. Finding time to read had been replaced by the practical tasks of day-to-day living: ball practices, school functions, home duties. But, the worst of all distractions: depression. I had lost, not just my best friend, but my joy of living altogether.
After receiving Davis' first book, Heaven in a Hole..." as a gift, I approached slowly.... almost timidly. Her writings were immediately intoxicating, her characters were made instantly recognizable by her soulful descriptions.... going further taking you inside their minds!
Davis was able to wisp me away to another place and time; she successfully weaves a perfect web of character and surroundings.... drawing the reader into the story. I was mesmerized!
You will find yourself no longer reading, but a voyeur in a magical place filled with people and places that are now made familiar to you, as well.
After her fist book, I was hooked..... so, eagerly I approached her next book, Looking Out the Back Door: Visions of Past Lives, with anticipation. I had no doubt these writings were inspired by revelation and/or spiritual awareness. When you read her stories you will see why.
After years of dust collecting on my bookshelves, Davis was able to gently revive my love for the written word. I had re-connected with my Best Friend again!!
These off-the-beaten track treasures by Ann R. Davis are truly gems for those who love to be inspired by souls brought to life and living inside the pages of her writings!
Thank you, Ann.
