Love the characters!

Another enjoyable Sam Smith story! I skip around in this series, but I never have any trouble keeping up with Sam and crew. In this newest installment, Sam and Faye have been trying to serve papers on a reclusive woman who seems to have disappeared. Not ones to give up, they keep trying until they find her—and along with finding her, they find injustice and murder. I don’t want to say more because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone else, but I do recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good private eye story.

As usual, I enjoyed the story, but the characters are what make the book for me. Sam, Faye, Alan, Sweets, Rosanna—they’re all so well fleshed out that they seem like real people. I really got a kick out of the verbal sparring between Sam and Faye. And I’m very curious about Sam’s newly discovered erogenous zone. :-)

Another thing I liked in this book was the sprinkling of information about Wales—in particular, Cardiff. There was just enough to make it interesting without slowing down the story.

But, above all, I’d really like to know where the author finds all of Sweets’s bad jokes! He seems to have an endless supply, and I hope we’re going to see more of them—and him.

If you’re a Sam Smith Mysteries fan, you’ll enjoy this 17th installment. Sam (Samantha) and her right-hand gal, Faye, embark on an accidental mystery when they can’t deliver a legal document to Rosanna Mee. Increasingly concerned for the young woman’s safety, they take it upon themselves to figure out where she is and why she appears to be hiding. Once again, Sam’s personal journey is a big part of the story. This time out, her handsome psychologist hubby, Alan, is called in to help with the pro bono case. Which leads to more complications than you initially expect, including a murder. Sam’s journey is once again as interesting as the mystery.
