As the inventor's website says, these pieces should be viewed like a deck of cards: they are versatile components which inspire game invention. A quick Google search will fetch rules for dozens of excellent games (my favorites are very different from one another: Pikemen, Zendo and Homeworlds).

I have not purchased these pieces in their current packaging (so I can't speak for the bag and dice). Over 12 years, I have played hundreds of games with these plastic pyramids in several states. The have endured the usage and travel without any visible wear.

They are expensive (especially if you buy enough to play some of the older games designed for 5 pieces of each type) but their versatility does much to make up for it.

These elegant, jewel-like pieces have brought me many hours of joy. The variety of games they service provides a unique experience I think every serious game-player needs to have.

Very durable & colorful pieces. Games vary from quick, fun, & simple (Icetowers, Pharaoh). To highly strategic and thought inducing (Volcano, Homeworlds, Zark City).
The Icedice bag comes with 30 pyramids, but can hold up to 75. So if you wish to expand to play games requiring more pieces/players, they fit right in!

nice compact game

I wanted a simple game that wouldn't get boring for a few weeks travelling. This is perfect for it, and weather-proof as a bonus.

The instructions did seem complicated at first, since it appears to be such a simple game. But like many games, just a couple practice runs made everything clear.

Great game pieces for any sort of table/board game. This is the cheapest way to get the standard 5 Looney pyramid colors. The bag and dice are a nice bonus. The same dice are used in many other Looney games, and are versatile design tools in and of themselves. I find the pyramids useful not only for Looney games but for recording player stats and abilities in various games without having to use pen/paper. They're satisfying to play with as well, a rarity in such lightweight game pieces.

Brilliant pieces. I'm a big fan of the two player game "Binary Homeworlds" which you can play if you buy one more rainbow stash. Would be better if the set came with the hard to find IceHouse Dice that most of the games use but its still a fun flexible gameset

Good for everybody but I must say adults seem to be more competitive and it's more fun. That being said when you play with a conservative non-risk taker the will beat you almost every time. Dang it!

Fantastic set of playing pieces

As you may have gathered from other reviews, this is more than just a game. This is a set of pieces with which you can play a whole host of unique and clever games. Some, such as the titular "IceDice", are lighter, push-your-luck dice games but they range all the way up to pure strategy, zero-luck, chess-like games (including the legendary "Homeworlds"; a true space chess). You can easily find the rules for these other games online. Just google "Looney Pyramid Games" or "Icehouse Games". Many games require multiple sets of pieces (called "stashes"). Currently IceDice is the most economical way to acquire 2 stashes. Few people have ever regretted discovering these little, multicolored, pyramid shaped gems. Good luck and have fun!

A the time of this review, this is probably the most economic way to buy Looney pyramids. There are a decent amount of games to play with two sets, with or without the dice, and the carry case can accommodate another stash and Martian coasters, if needed. For more games than not, it's good fun, if not a little far on the random chance side.
