The scope covered is ambitious. From figuring out “what problem am I actually trying to solve?” to “how many codebases do I need?”, you’ll get a big-picture look at almost everything that goes into the process of make great products. J briefly touches on some points—like paper prototyping, voice and tone, and version control—just to let you know that this is something you’ll need to think about. But where he’s brief, he provides additional resources, pointing you in the right direction to learn more. At other parts in the process, J takes us to the deep end, providing spot-on guidance from his crazy history of experience. For example, he takes empathy mapping to a new level, gives practical advice on setting up for user interviews, and takes you through a sure-fire process for naming your new product.
If you pair this book with some of J’s recommended resources and read up on Object-Oriented UX for a dose of information architecture and requirements management 🙂, you’ll be golden. Perhaps a little overwhelmed, but hey, building great products is not for the faint of heart. J’s advice definitely will bring you “clarity and confidence” but he doesn’t sugar-coat the process either! This will be hard, but with Loops, your chance at success will skyrocket.
