A little goes a long way! LorAnn’s super strength flavors are three to four times the strength of typical baking extracts.
A Dram is a small bottle that is the perfect size for 1 batch of homemade Hard Tack Candy (.125 fl oz approximately 1 teaspoon) Love the flavor and need a larger size? Most of the 100+ Super Strength flavors are availble in larger sizes. 1 ounce bottle contains approximately 6 teaspoons. -- 4 ounce bottle contains approximately 24 teaspoons -- 16 ounce and gallon are also available.

Hard Candy and Lollipop Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups granulated sugar

2/3 cup light corn syrup

3/4 cup water

1 dram (1 teaspoon)* LorAnn super-strength flavoring, any flavor

LorAnn liquid food coloring or gel food coloring (as desired)

Hard candy molds (optional)

Powdered sugar (optional)

Sucker bags & twist ties (optional)

Directions

In a heavy (good quality) 2-quart saucepan, mix together sugar, corn syrup and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
Insert candy thermometer if using, making certain it does not touch the bottom of the pan. Bring mixture to a boil without stirring.
Early in the cooking process, "wash down" any sugar crystals that form on the sides of the pan with a wet pastry brush.
Continue to cook the syrup, without stirring, until the temperature reaches 260º F; add drops of coloring until desired hue is achieved. Do not stir; boiling action will incorporate color into syrup.
Remove from heat precisely at 300° F (temperature will continue rising), or until drops of syrup form hard, brittle threads in cold water (hard crack stage). After boiling action has ceased, add flavor and stir. USE CAUTION WHEN ADDING FLAVORING TO AVOID RISING STEAM.
Carefully pour syrup into prepared molds or onto the prepared greased and foil lined cookie sheet. (As the sugar mixture begins to set up, you may want to score with a large knife to mark squares.) Do not refrigerate.
Cool completely. Break sheet candy into small pieces and dust with powdered sugar, if desired. Store in airtight containers between waxed paper. If making lollipops, do not dust with powdered sugar, but place in sucker bags and secure with twist ties. Store hard candy in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate.

*Another alternative is to pour the hot candy onto a heat-resistant surface covered in powdered sugar. When the candy is slightly cooled, it can be cut with well-oiled scissors into pillow-shaped pieces (you may want to wear heat-resistant gloves, such as rubber, to protect hands from heat).

Using the amount called for in the recipe (1/8 tsp) was perfect for a touch of flavor without overpowering the butter flavor I love in shortbread. My first batch, I used 1/4 tsp and, while I did get a great guava flavor, it was a tad bitter and there was no hint of butter at all. Experiment to see what works for your recipe, but this worked well as called for in mine. I didn't get a rosewater flavor as some others did; mine was pure, delicious, tropical guava.

Thought: the good reviews are from a different batch Of red apple, or they are for the GREEN Apple flavoring. the green is good . more like pollen or granny smith ..a little tart. Think the red was SUPPOSED TO BE sweeter like a red delicious kinda flavor.fail.

Not Happy.

As for the flavor I cannot say as we have not even opened or tried it yet.
We are however very frustrated by the inability to return this item.

My husband was trying to be nice and get this for me as a Christmas gift as he knew I loved the smell and taste of guavas.

All the information listed on the items page make it seem safe and wholesome. (Gluten free- Kosher- and the mention of some form of food safety quality certification.)

However, the product contains propylene glycol, artificial flavors, yellow 5 and blue 1.

We've got no idea what to do with this now, and honestly the extracts you buy in pretty much any grocery store have better ingredients than this.

Thankfully it was only 7 dollars.

I was disappointed this didn't smell or taste like guava. In our house, people said it smelled like bananas or cherry cough medicine or grass jelly(!) I bought this to make guava cupcakes and frosting. I added 1/2 tsp to one batch of cupcakes and 1/2 tsp to a batch of buttercream frosting. The results was okay. It didn't taste bad, just not like guava. In fact, my son said the frosting tasted like peach yogurt. If you're looking to recreate a Hawaiian guava cake, I don't recommend this product.
