Lord Baltimore will be of special interest to those already enchanted by the Georgia and South Carolina lowcountry; but it is a great read for all who enjoy picaresque, "coming of age" novels. As with other picaresgue novels, the "plot" is a vehicle, moving the naive protagonist through his wanderings and introducing chance(?) encounters with an assortment of colorful (but thoroughly believeable) characters. Lord Baltimore is a quick read, if you want; but it is particularly enjoyable read installments. Good for picking up, and putting down - at the beach, on the train, by the bed, etc. I love this book!
